Civ 5 Multiplayer typical game speed? marathon anybody?
Hi there civ players! Just wondering, what game speed do you use when playing multiplayer? Most of the time, i play at a quick game speed, but do any of you utilise epic or perhaps marathon game speed?
How much time are you willing devote when playing multiplayer?

i play from australia BTW

I prefer playing on Epic speed. I like getting more use of a certain era's weapons and units. Quicker game-play seems to take the emphasis off of learning how to use an era's units effectively and places it on simply obtaining techs quickly.

I am willing to revisit a multi-player game over a period of days if need be.

Where you live? (Country) ping time is most important for setting up games. High pings cause laggy games. I always play marathon speed, huge maps, raging barbs. BNW Addon (even tho I hates it) [Scotland/uk here]

The problem with doing anything slower than Quick in multiplayer is that it generally takes too much real time for people to really commit to. Even on Quick you often see people dropping out of the game well before it actually finishes. If you have a group of people dedicated to play a longer game you could always save it and load it up again later. The (re)introduction of Pitboss mode, which allows drop-in drop-out play while preserving player spots and sending turn reminders via e-mail, makes it much easier to play a longer game speed since people could take their turn whenever they are able instead of sitting down to play it all at once (althought that is still doable).
