DirectX 10/11 Crash - My fix
Just thought I'd post this in case some people are still having problems with DirextX 10 crashes.

I'm running Windows 8.1 (preview) with a GTX 670. I solved the issue by using the video drivers provided through Windows Update. I had originally used the Nvidia GeForce Experience drivers (320.49 WHQL, July 1st), but kept getting crashes. I installed the WIndows Update driver over that and all seems to be stable now.

Tried it and didn't help. It was working fine yesterday, but this morning I just can't get it to work. It will only let me select DirectX 9 and it looks bloody awful in game :(

The Driver failure popup on my system says:
FGXRender11::Present failed hr = DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Driver failure

Unsure if I have the same pb but it sounds close. I can't launch the game anymore while it was working perfectly yesterday without upgrade to Brave.

how do you do that? (the windows driver thing)

I also tried different compatibility modes of steam. No change. I suspect that the activation keys are not working as they should ... for existing CIV V steams licences... No? By the way, the game is not working with DirectX 9 as well !

Tried to start a previous version of CIV 5 like Gods&Kings -> Right click on the game within the Steam Library -> I see CIV V Gods&Kings back but I still can't play with it on my Windows 7 ... Still crash ...

Steam.exe > right click > Properties > comparability > windows 7

For some reason, Steam changed mine to Vista randomly. Works fine now.

To solve crash issue : 1. delete local install through steam. 2. delete CIV locally installed on the OS (which remains there even if deleted from a Steam point of view) - carefull with your personal saved items) 3. check video driver and ensure it is the latest 4. DOWNLOAD ONLY again CIV 5 BNW 5. 5. ONCE FINISHED Quick Steam 6. Launch Steam with Admin Rights 7. Install CIV 5 BNW. It works.

One thing that stopped the crash for me, is to move the player camera to a less busy part of the screen. Such as the clouds or ocean.

OK I can play now witht CIV5BNW but I start really to be very pissed of by regular rendering crashes since I use BNW !!

Just for info, I am supposed to use the latest available videodrivers. Indeed, I could start the game, and indeed long hours can happen before a crash but there are much too much crashes compared to all previous versions of Civ ... let's say 3 to 4 crashes per 48 hours.
