What exactly is happening to you? What recently started happenning to me is that immediately after I choose which version of Direct X I want, nothing happens. Is that the same for you?

No i can choose that then it will go to the load page than it will close out of it

I am having the same problem, and it just started today. I played more or less all day yesterday, but today when I choose the Direct X I get a blank black screen and it just sits there. Can't figure it out.

Probably due to that bloody patch released on the 13th, which is a complete disaster... I cannot play more than a couple of turns before the game freezes. Ridiculous...

for me I go to jump into the game, get as far as the civ history /game load screen and then part way through the speech I get an error saying it couldn't load some textures. I uninstalled and then reinstalled and it's the same deal. Considering that I've never had a problem with this game before a patch wouldn't surprise me.

I've had the same problem. I even updated to the latest NVidia video drivers...no luck. The error messages say something about not being able to texture map cierro de posti

Then I suppose it must be the patch then. Alot of people are complaining about it. There is even a petition going to get the patch either fixed or rolled back.

Same here. Other Steam games work fine but Civ 5 gets past opening credits then closes while loading. Problem started a few days ago

Does anyone know of a work around or a fix?

See thread titled "Terrain texture error crash" in this forum for a suggested solution to the Potosi glitch. It might work, or might not, but if the game is currently unplayable, then it's worth a shot!

I have the issue that I have to choose which DX verision then I get nothing... but it shows up in the task menu. Is the Potsoi glitch the same as the patch that was loaded a few days ago?

If you can't get past the window in which you choose which DX version, that's a different issue; but probably also caused by the last patch. If you can start Civ 5 and set up a game, but during the loading (about half-way through the intro speech) you get error messages* saying it failed to load texture of Cerro_de_Potosi and that its tile is the wrong size, THAT's "the Potosi glitch". *error messages pop up in background so you have to minimize the game window to see them, which is easy to do if your keyboard has a Windows key, but otherwise requires you to Ctrl+Alt+Del and open task manager.

I choose DirectX 10/11, screen goes black than windows message pops up saying it has stopped working and will notify me if they find a solution which they don't. BUT when I choose DirectX9, the screen goes black, probably into the load screen, and then just gets stuck their never to reach the games main menu. I've tried a bunch of stuff but it has all failed. Any ideas???
