Well I'm Middle-Eastern so I like to play as Arabia (Domination), Egypt (Culture, Tourism) and Cartrage (Naval domination). I love the Middle-Eastern music. I also have Pheonician lineage in my family (Cartrage Christian from Lebanon) so I was so excited when they added Cartrage to the game.

Gameplay wise though, I always feel OP with Arabia as soon as Oil comes into the game. I never have a problem with gold with Arabia. it's also awesome to have a huge sprawling Buddhist Arabian empire :P

Recently I've been playing as Brazil, Celts, and Japan because of the very different style of gameplay you have to adapt too. Especially the Celts.

English, those longbowmen can be very useful and also played an improtant part in many historical battles such as Asincourt and Crécy

I like to play Arabia for their trading abilities and bazaars and Poland for their free policy and free maintenance stable.

Rome because their like a rolling snowball; the bigger they get the faster they expand.

India, prefer smaller, more focused empires.

Arabia because desert tiles + Petra + bazaars = me laughing aloud as I drown everyone in gold. Their Camel Archers are also pretty decent as far as unique units go.

I also like the Inca. No terrain cost for moving in hill tiles is a really useful ability for just about anything: building improvements, defending your cities, etc.

China if I am playing on a harder setting...they are too OP in a normal game. Two attacks from their crossbbow units plus the paper maker generating extra gold. I can't help but steam roll any AI player if I play them.

For a normal game I like Egypt...cause I like wonders.

Celts; they basically can grab any religion they want and have fun with it.

Nothing quite like beating the Mayans/Koreans/Babylonians in a Spacerace with Great Scientists who are likely Young Earth Creationists.

Babylon/Maya. That great scientist for reaching writing with Babylon is really nice early and the improved walls are also a plus.
The Maya get those free great people and have their unique building available at pottery which feels like it always gives them a good start as well, not to mention having a ranged unit before archery is even researched. Plus Pacal is probably my favorite leader, must be his optimistic personality.
