Recommend my 4th city slot (with screen shot)
Ok so i'm playing on earth map and has been stuck at a continent for too long. 3 Cities on that piece of land but anyway now i'm going for my 4th which is on a pretty good island.

I'm not sure how you guys define good but for me luxury resource is the main thing I look for as more happiness = more of everything. I can even invade others still have enough happiness after I annex his city. So I found a pretty good island :

Look at the screen shot below, my trebuchet is located at the point where it can reach the most luxury resource however it is land based. As moroccan, i'm not sure if I should get a sea side city for trading. So assuming if I place my city next to sea, then I could probably have 2 cities in this island instead of 1 in the middle .

Suggestion? Btw i'm playing for scientific victory. (and i'm still new)

Edit: Is it also ok to place a main city in the middle for reaching the most possible resouce then later have a small city by the sea just for trades then I can just allow it to grow til lI can reach the truffles resouce then stop growing that city.

I could fit as much as 4 coastal cities on that island (which is Australia, BTW).
I suggest the plains tile on the top right of the Cotton tile, between the Plains hill and the Desert hill, on the coast.
It has Iron, 2 Salt, Cotton, coast, and is within 2 tiles away of the mountain so you can build sutff like Machu Pichu and Neushwanstein.
Alternatively, move down to the desert hill I mentioned next to the Cotton and the mountain. You can work the Dyes and build an Observatory.

Another location is the tile to the southwest of the westernmost mountain, next to the Antiquity Site. You get 3 Salt, Horses, coast, and the ability to build an Observatory.

Are you going for a wide or tall empire?

if tall I like the spot north west of the dyes. Its gets all lux but truffles, and its beside a montain for the Observatory. Woud defetnly save an engineer to rush the Petra wonder because of all that desert.

What is wide/tall empire?

If it helps I hope to win by scientific victory so having more cities will help in generating my science.

@TheGaleRider:

Why is it good to have 4x coastal cities in such a small island? Besides more gold from sea trade routes?

Wide empire = empire with 5+ cities.
Pro: more resources. Con: expansive, unhappiness

Tall empire = empire with a few very populated cities.
Pro: happiness, cheap. Con: less resources

Wide - a lot of cities with not really big populations
Tall - a few cities with big populations

That's just my OCD going "MUST MOP UP RESOURCES BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE".
Much of the island is desert (thanks, Outback), so I'd like coastal cities for more food. Plus it allows Cargo Ships, Lighthouses, Harbors, Sea Ports, naval units, etc. More food = More population = More science.

That could work, but we'd also want to know if you want tall or wide. But if you just want one city smack in the center that stretches to cover the most resouces, go for the tile northwest of the Dyes that also lies at the base of the two mountains. Then have your other coastal city on the west coast between the Horses and the Truffles.

Me, I'd like to drop 4 cities on Oz; once the ports are up, put airports to fill your carriers, with Armory take the Range promotions and carrier loading, as well- 'tis a bloody good fueling station, there, mate . By that time you should be ready to kick serious mule (biblical) !

I would just settle on the bottom right corner of Australia, because it's on the side that is nearer to America where your mainland is. Also it has two luxury resources and lots of decent tiles, but you won't get Salt.

Edit: I'd actually settle 2 Cities. One on the bottom right corner of Australia for Incense and Dyes, and the other on the bottom left to pick up the Truffles and Salt.

I'd probably settle right on top of the iron on the southern coast. You'll be able to work the truffles, both incense tiles, and the salt. (you'll probably have to buy the tiles to get them before somebody else.) And eventually your city can reach the horses and dyes if nobody else settles there. Since it's on the coast you can build a harbor to make a city connection.
