Freedom Force vs. the 3rd Reich

PC: Similar tactical RPG / squad based combat games?
So far I have only seen similar isometric strategic gameplay in:

Syndicate Wars (NOT the new FPS)
Commandos
Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of steel
Neverwinternights 1 (wich also has the 'pause' option for strategic purposes)

Any other games I should know of? And what is this genre called anyway?

I looked into it, this looks more like your normal day to day RTS (Dune2 / Command & Conquer). With the addition of an RPG element. I'm really looking for the more team / squad based games.

possibly jagged alliance series?

Baldur's Gate? KotOR? Dragon Age? Dungeon Siege? A Farewell to Dragons?
I have a feeling that's not what you meant considering how obvious those suggestions would be, but that's all I can think of when I read what you want.

Thanks! I did look into the Jagged Alliance series, only to conclude I think I don't have the time to get very deep into the better games that are somewhat harder.

X-Com
Dungen Siege (first one is more tactical then the secound one. avoid 3rd at all cost)
Dawn of war 2 is heavily squad based. the first one was just an rts.
Icewind dale games. Baldurs gate games have a heavy story invest. but the icewind dale games have lite story, heavy combat and very (if you play it right) heavy tactical elements.

Dawn of War 2 and its expansions, basically :) Skirmish is normal RTS but campaign is squad based and the last stand is tons of fun too.

Shadowrun Returns, and it's a really good game. Also, Neverwinter Nights 2.

If you like Commandos, you should also get Desperados 1 & 2, Helldorado as well as Robin Hood.

Thanks for all the tips.

I'm mainly looking at games with some voice acting, Shadowrun Returns seems to be a lot of reading. So XCOM seems a good choice as any, though I don't really like all the base management. And looking forward to Satellite Reign (the unofficial Syndicate Wars sequel) , just to bad it doesn't have a pause-to-plan. They chose a solution 'in-between' , a character that can use some kind of 'bullet time' for a short period of time.

And it's rather that I look for squad management games, with some light RPG-elements. Rather than a complex RPG like Neverwinternights 2, that one just seems a bit to cumbersome for my taste. Though I do understand the RPG fans would like it, since it gives some more depth than NWN1.
