Is the Songbird explained anywhere? (SPOILERS!)
So I just finished the game and enjoyed my mind ****, and I believe I understand the story quite a bit regarding different worlds and whatnot. But what really bugs me is the Songbird. Are we to assume that the tear-hopping is how the Songbird was developed? I mean,it's a giant bird that looks quite a bit like a big-daddy? Im simply wondering where this thing came from. Since you see it basically "die" when it's in Rapture...could it somehow be from Rapture? Perhaps they tear-hopped to Rapture and steal it/the technology? Or is his existance explained elsewhere...?

When you're on your way to attack the factory, there's a voxophone from fink explaining it. next to some chalk drawings in the factory.

The song bird is supposed to be able to stand low pressure environments. In theory it is supposed to be like a big daddy. There's also more information online

But, its eye cracks under a few feet of water.

There's high pressure underwater which explains why it couldn't survive....

I'd guess that there will be some future DLC that will explain (origins/construction etc) Songbird more thoroughly. Atleast i do hope so.

Fink stole some big daddy blueprints to build songbird, apparently, plus how would the SB be from rapture, it wouldn't fit in the city under water..

Rapture is six miles under water. Hardly a few feet.

And Songbird is a lot like the Handyman and Big Daddy. They're all former human beings who got turned into machine monsters.

It wasn't in rapture, it was when you fall into the water and it tries to grab you before you get away. The whole bird isn't even underwater, just it's head and arm

No, his eye cracks when he falls into the beach.

He's talking about the last part of the game where (spoilers) Booker and Elizabeth go down to Rapture itself! where Songbird die because of the underwater pressure, not the beach part...

But the comment he was responding to I believe was the one where it talked about the eye cracking underwater, which was the part at the beach if I remember correctly?

Well considering how large Songbird is, and judging by how much you've sunk do to the impact of the debris breaking apart the water for you, it's much more than a few feet.

I think it's implied that Songbird is actually an alternate version of Booker, hence-

*SPOILERS FOR ENDGAME*

-the fact that Booker and his alternate selves (Comstock, potentially Songbird) are the only characters to die by drowning. Plus, there is the extreme protectiveness of Elizabeth that Songbird has, mirroring that of Booker himself.

I really hope one DLC is about the Songbird, as it's the coolest part about infinite.

Songbird is a mechanical menace formed from the brain child of Fink after he peeked into a tear and saw a mechanical monster protecting a little girl. End of Story.
