What you need to know before buying this game.
There's an awful lot of love and hate for this game. So for the purpose of keeping things simple, I'd like to give a in depth review (no spoilers) that looks at the positive and negative side of the argument to help people decide whether or not to buy it.
First off, don't go into this game expecting a fast paced FPS or you will be dissappointed. This is a story driven game. There are plenty of actions sequences, but playing just for them will leave you dissapointed. Infinite's story is one of the best I've ever seen. However, you need to get in the habit of slowing down and really taking in the world around you. Hunting for voxophones and listening to conversations really brings the world to life. The story can be a bit confusing as a lot of things have symbolism that won't be apparent until late in the game, but it's the kind of story that will make you want to go back and play again to better understand these points. I wn't give away the ending, but it really does end with a bang.
Secondly, the gameplay. veterans of the series will notice right off that weapon slots have been reduced to two. This is both a positive and negative thing. Personally, it steered me more towards using the powers rather than just run and gunning. However, it takes away the ability to swap ammo types, which feels limiting. The vigors (plasmids) are a lot of fun to use, but are incredibly unbalanced. The first one you get can possess enemies, and when upgraded, causes soldiers to fight for you, then suicide when the timer runs out, allowing entire rooms to be cleared by turning everyone against each other. While they are varied and fun, more work needed to be done to ensure balance.
Third, the world. Leaving Rapture was a risk that paid off. The first time you set foot in Columbia made my jaw drop. The vibrant colors were a great change of pace from Rapture and any other game in recent months. The city is widely varied and beautiful to look at. However, while work was put into the design, the textures are not as high as could be. This doesn't really take away from the experience, but it could have made a great city even better. Character models work nice though. Some people say it's linear, but in a story driven game, that's almost a necessity. A open world would have lost focus on the main story. I'm not saying it absolutly wouldn't work, but it would have required a major redesign.
Fourth and final, overall experience. This game sits up with Fallout 3 and others as my favorite games of all time. After the story was over, I wanted to play again just to see what I might have missed. It's by no means perfect. Less than great textures, unbalanced powers, and maybe a bit too easy causes a short playthrough of about 10 hours depending on how exploration happy you are. Is it worth the money? I think so. Just don't expect COD. Treat it more like heavy rain, a story experience. Like I said, I love this game, but I'm not above admitting it has flaws.

Thanks. My favorite of all time too. I do kinda wish they would nerf possession before the DLC just to give a little more challenge.

I was being objective following your review trying to see you view point THEN

You compared this pile of POOP to FALLOUT 3 how could you wash your mouth out.

You don't like it. That's fine. Please don't belittle other people for liking it.

The OP has a different idea of what is good and what is not compared to you. That's part of life.

I also believe this is one of the best FPS games I've ever played (starting with Duke Nukem 3D back in the mid-90s).

Yes 24 hrs (take a look at my Skyrim and Fallout play times) I lived in hope of this games redemption right to its bitter end, it never came another 24 hrs of life I will not be getting back along with the wasted cash.

I did not belittle any person for justifying spending cash on a pile of POOP
(misery loves company they say)

I belittle the comparison of two games
one a pile of POOP and one a master peace of open gaming.

Are you a Journalist, if you must quote some one. Quote what they sead in context.

I accept other people's opinions, but yours is biased. For one thing, even on my longest playthrough, where I explored everywhere, it took me 15 hours. So either you spent a LOT of time in the menu, or your lying and played it more than once.

Let me see are you are RIDICULING me because I looked around in this game, giving it every chance to show me the hidden room that made me THINK no its ok the story makes senses now.

All I was missing was that one hidden room/wall code/ book/recording/history video/ opening that safe and it would all become clear I would get that FUZZY feeling of cash well spent and the game would stop being a pile of POOP.

Nope NADER no explanation as to why B(s)uker De(t)wit forgot about selling his only child.

Let me see now.. that day when I sold my only child and after changed my mind see her disappear into thin air. Now when was that...was it Wednesday or Tuesday.. no its gone things like that they just never stick in your mind do they.

You feel you can make an accusation of deception on my part undertake a defamation of some ones good character have the audacity to besmirch my own or for that matter anyone’s honesty, because you take a smaller amount of time to complete a game then they DO.

In my original reply to you post about my 24 hrs I thought wrongly that you felt I had not given it enough time not “to much time” LOL.

It is true to say that I spent SOME time in menu most of which was “spitting feathers” as to how easily I had been parted from my cash for a pile of POOP.

Here is a quote from my partner “Calm down, calm down it’s only a GAME, I am sorry is so BAD, yes I can tell you upset because of your constant RANTING!”

You just confirmed my point and then did it again.

You told the OP to wash his mouth out, because he likes BSI as much as Fallout 3.

And, as far as Fallout 3 is concerned... I actually like BSI better than that. I was so bored with Fallout 3 that I didn't even finish all of the DLC I have.

But, see, you need to be ok with that. We all have different tastes, preferences, and interests.

Yes your right I did use an in appropriate statement to describe my shock at one of the best games of ten years “FALLOUT 3” be mentioned in the same sentence as being similar to this very very very poor shooter.

I apologise for any personal injury you may feel on his behalf and hope that he could understand my emotional response to his comment.

We could come up with some simple compression lists to see how to measure up the two games, something simpler to hardware specification charts for graphic cards or chips.
Let’s start off with a comparison of: BSI V Fallout 3

(Yes I know Fallouts 3 is 5 years old and can’t possibly hope to win! (Could it!) LOL)

Every one post a game feature like for like at the end we can see objectively how well they compare
I will get us started
BSI Fallout 3
First person view YES First person view YES

Come on ever one let’s see if we can get a nice long list showing us how we can all mention both games in the same sentence as in any way similar with comparable game play and narrative .

I actually like BSI better than fallout 3 also. I thought Fallout 3 had a great atmosphere, but i was let down by some of the bugs and combat issues. It's all preference, but this other guy seems to think that just because he doesn't like BSI, my opinion is wrong because I like another game he sees as better.
