Bioshock 2 is very similar to Bioshock, which is a steam-punk version of System Shock.
The story is as interesting and with the same gradual build-up to the peak dramatic intensity of the ending, which is great. Although, some things are confusing, e.g., only after watching an explanation on YouTube, did I understand that Bioshock 2 protagonist is not the same as in Bioshock.
They simplified the hacking system, made it more faster. The hacking in the first part was overkill.
The enemies are basically the same, only brute splicers and big sisters are introduced. And it's fine with me. What else to think of, if it's the same environment with the same inhabitants?
In overall, I can say that Bioshock 2 doesn't offer nothing radically new, it feels more like a remake – the way the Bioshock should have been made.
Bioshock 2 offers a smooth RPG-FPS experience with an interesting story. It feels somewhat repetitive, as I approach each level in the same way and all the levels feel the same, too, although the difficulty is gradually increasing. At times I felt almost bored, but the last 2 levels compensate for that, as the story gets really interesting. And the ending is really, really cool. As in the first part, it is determined by your moral choices during the game.
My overall rating is 7/10.
It's a good game, but I wouldn't recommend to play it right after you have finished the first part, as they are very similar and you might get fed up with the Rapture environment.
It's also quite short (less than 14 hours to complete the story), but, I guess, if it was longer, it might have been overkill.
The game also has extra missions (to defend little sisters in different levels), which I personally didn't find interesting to try, and MP, which also offers some co-op challenges, however it is almost dead and it's hard to find at least 4 players to fill the arena.
The DLC looks promising and has very good reviews, so I think I'll try it out, when it's on sales.
