Mods that change combat
So, despite playing RTS games for years this game is my first in the civilization series. I was really liking it at first, with nice little things like being able to rename your civilization and pretty good economic management, but now at harder difficulties I'm finding wars to be a real pain. Things like combat always being 1v1 (I have 15 Praetorians, one Longbowman guarding a city with the defenses taken out shouldn't be able to take out 3 of them when he's that outnumbered). It takes far too long to get troops anywhere, especially since they don't seem to be able to use roads in enemy territory. Conquered cities have almost all their buildings destroyed, which almost seems to defeat the point save for wonders.

So long story short, are their any mods that help with some of these issues and make conquering your enemies more fun? Because otherwise it seems culture and spaceship victories are the only plausible option for winning this game, unless its a 1v1/2v2 brawl or something.

change your settings.

Play on marthon, troops move faster.
use siege weapons when attacking cities. Its LITERALLY their purpose. Turn off animations on attack and enable stack attack. One click capture. now not one at a time.

Voila.

Seriously. or complain on the internet. DId you even LOOK at the settings?

bah go play Starcraft.

Stop wiping people out, just go in, take their capitol, kill their army, and make them capitulate and move on. Easy Domination win. you can literally wipe AI out in whatever time it takes for them to be willing to talk after you declare war. and launch a coastal surprise attack.

Yes, I gave it another go and discovered the stack attack thing. It wasn't really covered in the tutorial and I figured it would just automate the single battles, not change how the odds are handled. That does improve things considerably.

I quickly learned the value of siege weapons for reducing enemy defensive bonuses in my first game. However, even with the defensive bonus reduced to zero, attacking cities 1v1 seems to produces rediculously bad odds.

I think you misread a bit too much "complaining" in my post, when it was really more confusion and looking for solutions more than anything.

uhhhhhhh.

Lets try this again. ACTUALLY ATTACK THE CITY WITH THE SIEGE WEAPON.

it does collateral damage, meaning it hits like 6 enemy units at once. yeah it'll die or hell trebs don't seem to all the time (got like a 30% survival rate on the first attack vs longbows)

after you hit it with 2 trebs your main line troops survival rate will skyrocket.
