Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword

Civ4 combat percentages
How about creating a system that honors the combat percentages. I.E. when i have a combat percentage over 90% chance of winning how about winning that battle at least 90% of the time instead of 50% of the time LOSING@!

may even be as bad as losing 80% of the time now that i think about it

It's so bad, I won't risk attacking with anything less than 96% otherwise I'm almost guaranteed to lose.

This is almost certainly due to a psychological effect that makes your losses at such absurd odds stand out far more than when you win at the same odds. There's a similar (though not quite as strong; losing makes a stronger impact on you) effect when you win at extremely low odds.

TL; DR: human mind is stupid, make actual notes of all the times you win and lose at 90% odds and you'll find over time that it is statistically close to 90%.

Some part of the game, particularly at higher difficulty is about attrition. You can't sit there, building every building, or even most, and some point, some opponent is going to have a technological military advantage. You need to choose your fight, make use of specific unit skills and make many, many units, then expect some losses and be pleasantly surprised when you troops sometimes make a miracle comeback.

If this random aspect is distasteful to you, you can set in options before the game starts to random seed on reload. Then if you lose a battle you think you should have won, reload and it will re-randomize the encounter. Works with hut results, too. People play different ways, and if this is for you, have at it.

In Civ 1 I remember that sometimes a battleship would lose to a warrior. One of the "skills" needed to win a game was to get over it rather than just delete the game, lol.
