Steam doesn't show it but I've been playing this game before 2003. I was a beta tester for this game from Dec 2002 to April 2003. I then became a player and eventually worked on the Community Polaris team for CCP.
This game is truly a unique, evolving sentient being in its own right. I am proud to see it grow up and to challenge itself above the many opportunitied it faced during this increadibly long journey.
I've met hundreds of wonderful players in this universe. Many are still wonderful friends to this day. It was the first game where I got a taste of other cultures, countries, and philosophies.
But more than that, I came to realize this game is just massively sentient. It has a vibrant, growing economy. The sandbox feature has always been awesome. Want to be a pirate? Ok. Want to totally screw an entire Corp and swindle it out of trillions of isk? Ok. You want to run for office? Ok.
This game is like family. I may have moved on but every now and then throughout each year, I visit it once more..like going back home for the holidays.
I don't get why people hate this. If you read a little bit such as Eve University, it's pretty fun. It's sandbox because of what you can do and how many paths you can go through., not that you can build in here. I like it that it is a lot like Elit dangouus, but free, more complexity, and more things to do.
Fun, but really hard to understand. Reading up on guides and watching tips to get you up to speed is highly recommended. Lots of frustration as you stumble your way to learn to never put your guard down.
It is fun game, I like the artwork. However, when play alone, it is boring and complex. It also require a lot of time. I recommend EVE if your friends will play with you and when you have a lot of free time.
Kristin’s Review: Recommendation: 5/5 (see note) [❤ Audience] [☼ Graphics] [$Price/Value] ☐ Kids ☐ Bad ☑ Full Price ☐ Everyone ☐ Decent ☑ Sale Only ☐ Casual ☑ Good ☑ Free ☑ Pro players ☐ Beautiful ☐ Do not Buy
[☢ Requirements] [☼ Difficulty] [۞ Game Length] ☐ 90' PC ☐ Easy ☐ Short 0 - 5 hours ☑ Minimum ☐ Masterful ☐ Medium 5 - 15 hours ☑ Medium ☐ Hard/Annoying ☐ Long 15+ hours ☑ High end ☑ Hard/Satisfying ☑ Endless
[⌬ Story] [§ Bugs] [♬Audio] ☑ No Story ☐ Lot of bugs ☑ Soundtrack is amazing ☐ Tolerable ☑ Few Bugs ☐ Music is annoying ☐ Good ☐ Exploitable ☐ Sound is useful ☐ Fantastic ☐ Perfect/No Bugs ☐ Sound is glitchy
Note: EVE has been my core game for a while now, as I always return to it. However I have to add that EVE is not a game, and more like a hobby. While Steam has only recorded a few hours of playtime, my real playtime has far exceeded several thousand hours over several years. For reference my character's birthdate was in 2006.
Do I recommend this game? Yes, only if you are willing to put in the effort to learn and be good at the game. If you're going to approach it with an instant gratification mindset you will be disappointed.

Most overrated game ever 88/100. Sandbox, sci-fi, great community... It is a fake. While all concerned individuals and organisations keep praising this nonsense called game, we'll get down to business with common sense as regular and normal person. Pros: +F2P +LSR Cons: -Sandbox. Whole game is contradicting with essential definition of sandbox. You can't create any content in game. All you can do is just attempt to fit in the prepared batch of roles alike miner or pirate , and construct some objects from blueprints, and yeah, how I forget - freedom of action -same I experienced in Aion, but at least it wasn't called a Saaaandbox. Haha -Sci-fi. Just like "elves" represent fantasy genre, "space" represents eve's sci-fi. Nothing special and intriguing, no story, no plot, no lore, nothing at all. Nothing impressive. -Great community - toxicity over 9000. 90.9% of players are ill-mannered rabid dogs looking for easy prey to kill and will execute their intention immediately if they won't get any penalty, and 9% will do it even if they will get it, with a success as a condition. The most desired victim is helpless and easy victim, some noob that plays to be scored and looted by them. Gate camps, ganks. And new player cannot fight back at all, game mechanics and ccp cared about you to be gandicaped. Sure you can join some corps, they are actively recruiting cannon fodder and working ants all around, haha, feathers flock to the bird, and trashes muttualy gravitates. Losses from this are considered as "real" due to full loot mechanics and upgrades cost that are x5 x6 more than in-game reimbursment policy(usual hulls 1-40kk, upgrades much more, only hulls are getting insured for 90% max summ payout with 25% insurance fee). So, 99.9% are motivated to kill me and to make suffers a loses ? And audience is 30+? I'll keep it in mind, if somebody will bully me irl and no withnesses around I definetely will make this world at least a bit better. Being a good guy, this how I was educated haha -Player Skill development. Before you can use relatively challenging and safe ship in each class + some necessary skills you'll have to spend about half year time, just que them and you don't need to be online, eve plays when you offline, just buy subscription - really so good game haha. And all advanced ships require subscription to use, not to mention skills upgrades and modules. Remember, I said CCP cared about you being helpless? You won't be able to run away even. Consider some skills take month(es) to upgrade,... Or buy skill injectors from Eden shop with your money earned hard. P2W in here can compete and win vs Korean mmorpgs haha - Roleplay. Exciting mining, rough 30 minutes looking at your barge sucking gas cloud and spamming radar to check if anybody is probing your with scanner, what can be better? And than long way to the station, meeting ganks and watching your ship turns to wrecks. Things could be different, if you would be in corp. For example, after 30 minutes sucking...mining there can be many wrecks, or , what is more boring, 30min jumping from gate to gate, way home. Exciting. -Space. Vast space in eve is represented with 7000 systems-rooms connected with gates or wormholes, all roots/rooms/gates are scripted. In the game, I was choking cuz of space tightness. -Routines. Just like roleplay, it is lethaly boring. Either you're camping gate to kill some harmless noobs, either you are moving towards specific system that can take 1-2h of extreme bordom, or end in the vicinity of next jumping point. -Strategy. Fitting ships is not only costly and increase losses. It is also useless. For example to resist SINGLE control skill - warp disruption (binding) you need to fit wapr core stabilisers, that decrease x2 times targeting distance and target lock time. It is how, if you would play ranger with bow in some vanilla rpg and and get immunity from binding spell from 1 opponent in cost of decreasing your attack range from 25mr, to 6mr. It makes sense. It is a bit exaggerated I admit, and imply only solo gameplay, cuz things become different with getting specific skills and ships in a few years. -Zerg rules. -Hugest time sunk ever. WOW and l2 declassified. -Dumb UI. -Dumb controls and maneuver roles. -No skill dependence. In fimosed eve fans eyes, skills are a bit different thing. It is not about your own mastery in game, it is about perks that are improving when you're offline or online , doesn;'t matter at all. It is not about reaction, special moves, tactics, rotations, understanding your class benefits and enemy weaknesses that are involved in action combat like in common rpg's. It is just about lock target/scramble/disrupt/buble/orbit and press F1 combined guns. No action, only boredom. I was 1st confused what is skill depended cruiser, and find out that it just about bunch of perks improved to +5 with a rough year period. -No pve content. Same low quality boring quests for all 4 sides. -No PVP content. Ppl fight to fight, to grief or. I actually didn't find out why they fight, and what for I have to fight , in any case gap between me after month of time and old players is wider than Great Canyon and I would not be able to kill any of them, except poor noobies like me. I am not this spoiled. -Spreadsheet sim. -Massive MP and Superfleet battles. Overhyped lie and fact distortion, usually at system max 130 players, most common less than 10. All these dumb superfleet battles looks like bunch of litlles squares on screen that flying there and here, completely unepic. Server can't endure load rough few thousands bearded 40 years old teenagers to play war, so CCP pleaded to inform in advance about most massive battles to dedicate server for such events. Last time, 1mil $ equal fleet battle was most probably revoked cuz parties didn't inform. CCP provide wide advertisement about such battles cuz it sounds epic, but it actually just stupid. Youtube yourself. -Eve= 2nd Job you don't get paid for. If you are 40y old and got kidz, better get job you will be paid to provide your family with money. -Balance never meant to be. -CCP team cautiously secure own "unique" (Goonswarm, Pandemic and all all stars)playerbase population , propagate mischeveous moral guidelines and attempt to censor alternative opinions at dedicated forums tagging them with "ranting". How this trash game with old static limited audience received high appraisal no need to guess. 88/100 +1 per 10k, Greatest MMO of all times....hahaha. This is common practice, considering CCP moral integrity XD You can become x10 times more rich and successful in you real life if you will put your passion in the right direction instead of Eve online with its time learning curve. Or you can become pro nerd that boasting about killing noobs in the game "that is not for all" because there is nothing else left to proud about. I quitted;D In case "fanboys" 40yo will argue about anything there: Point what sense in game. Don't take serious. Are you Jokers are you? Point motives to kill/grief/offend helpless opponents. You harassment back in childhood, 20-100kk isk of loot, and your misery irl don't count as motives. Point what you achieved in this game. Hours/Achievments. Alike education programm. Just to compare. Point what kind of great people you interact in the game. And how many girls proportion. haha, gentlemen 07 haha Point how it changed your life for better haha Point how skillfull you become, soloing at t1 cruiser t2 or t3 also would be nice. Or you prefer gangbangs since 1vs1 you are not capable anymore? haha

EVE is EVE CCP one of those devs whom take the jobe seroiusly, there were bad turns but they were responsive to change. No other game have ever lisened to the players opinion as mach as they did. Not to mention the Fanfest ..... you goto try befor you die
