+ A genuinely intriguing story in a futuristic noir setting; watching the mystery of Azriel Odin and Delta-Six unravel throughout the course of the 5 ½ hour campaign does not drag on in the slightest, with a satisfying conclusion to top it all off
+ In the style of older point and click games (most notably Beneath a Steel Sky
), Gemini Rue’s
gameplay is a tried and tested formula that doesn’t fail to test the player at times with somewhat obscure puzzles, while still remaining fairly linear
+ The game also manages to effectively capture the graphical style of said older games, with both pixelated environments and character models giving the game a distinctive look; the sound effects and music as well are very well-implemented
+ The amateur voice acting that accompanies the story is surprisingly well-done--especially the main characters--making the games futuristic/noir setting all the more authentic.
- The few shooting sections, while a nice addition to the point and click gameplay, suffer from awkward controls and mechanics (luckily these sections are few and far between)
- The amount of environments and backgrounds is scarce, leading to you treading familiar ground far too often; some more locations to explore wouldn’t go amiss.
pays homage to point and click games from the past, while still managing to feel both old and new. With an unforgettable story and quirky puzzles, the few gameplay sections that may try to detract from the experience couldn’t manage to deter me from playing through this gem. I’d easily recommend this game to fans of old adventure games.”
