Hacked?
I really would like to buy this game, but if I run into at least one hacker a day its a deal breaker. Is it bad with this game? Are there plenty of servers that are just normal games like FFA and TDM with standard player limit, no mods and such?

Hardly any cheaters in this game as server admins will just kick + ban them off the server.

There is no matchmaking, only dedicated servers.

1 hacker a day would be a great thing for me in many games. pretty much all fps games have cheaters. its how well are they handled.

in cod4 its all dedicated server, and admin who run those servers. you just have to find servers that have active admin.

i dont know why every hates on mods. those are ok in cod4. some servers have to run a mod but just do it for the maps. other servers dont run a mod at all but change some settings from within game. our server we have both a ffa and a tdm. normal server except that we are a low gravity server.

some mod servers are fun like xi has a freeze tag server. adds a different gametype as well as many maps.

some mod servers you just have to play a little bit to get used to it and then most start to like it. a couple reasons. 1 is that they get used to the gametype and mod and maps. as you learn the maps and gametype then its less confusing. another reason is most servers have there core players so you start to get to know them and it then is like playing online with your friends.

I could have fun with modded servers, not a big deal as long as its not swamped with them to the point where its hard to find a good normal game.
I don't think i've ever run into a hacker in black ops 2 yet since its release.

There are pretty much no cheaters. If you run into one just tell an admin and he'll be gone. Next, there are not many servers. It's good but you have to hunto for normal servers. Theres Deathrun and stuff though...

True, I ended up getting the game. There are not many hackers, but my biggest issue is that all of the servers are 50 or so man servers, its still pretty enjoyable but not the good ol' cod4

It's sort of funny, really. Part of the appeal of many FPS games on PC is the higher player counts, yet CoD4 just was not designed with that many players in mind and as such, most matches do not flow properly. A solution wouild likely be having the high pop servers running the many large custom maps out there which are better suited for that sort of gameplay, but most of the high pop servers instead do the opposite, running the smallest maps in the game, like Killhouse.

I would recommend trying out some S&D servers. When I get that nostalgic desire to play CoD4 from time to time, that's usually what I do. They tend to be less popular and have lower playercounts (I think the most I've ever seen was around 26, which isn't terrible, but most are lower than that). Of course, that might be an issue if you never really liked S&D.

there are plenty of servers that are not that high as well. our server we run up to 20 players. we are a ffa though. and i also enjoy freeze tag mod servers and the couple i play in our ran by XI and they are 32 man servers. our server we run maybe 10 or so players and now and then on weekends or something may max out.

just have to find them.

I have no doubt they are out there, but they can get pretty buried. According to my server browser, there are over 7,000 CoD4 servers running! I'm not 100% sure if that's actually accurate, but if so, that makes finding the kind of server you want rather complicated.

true but that is counting empty servers too. you can set your filter to not show empty servers, i also like to not see full servers. then you can set it to show either player count hi to low or low to hi, or map type or gametype. i am not a fan for games that have a ton of players. not so bad if its a big map and depends on gametype like freezetag or something. if just a ffa or tdm on the stock maps then 20 or less players for me.

you can also get xfire or something that show a lot more servers then what ingame and steam shows. and i believe you can filter out a bit more as well.

I've actually began to enjoy the higher man servers on the bigger maps on tdm. It would still be nice to get some 8 man ffa or 12-16 man tdm though

well there are servers for that as well. just modded or different. our server usually runs up to 10 players with our server being able to run up to 20. its a ffa server but its high jump. many of the maps you thought you new you dont. as with high jump you can now get to places you could not have before as well as many maps you can jump out of the normal playing area.

Yeah, I've actually noticed that the high man servers are never filled up too much so it's pretty good.

yeah. also xfire is a great thing to download. many servers use it and you can add there admin to friends so if no admin are on, you can contact them. we have admins on xfire but work from home or are busy so they are not in game.

also xfire shows a lot more server and the filter works much better then the ingame browser and steams browser.

Nice, I'll check that out.
