I have no idea whether I like this game or not.

I have played this for 2 hours straight - for any other game, that would be more than enough time to decide whether or not the thing you just bought was worth your hard-earned money. For Necrovision, that is a completely different case.
I was immediately alerted to the fact that this game uses the Painkiller engine - a decision I found odd for a game with this theme in particular, but I didn't pay too much attention to it. 30 minutes later I realize that I should have.
The second level in the game (SECOND LEVEL!) immediately changes the tone from the horrors and trials of war to something quite similar to the original Painkiller: hordes of brainless enemies rushing at you, mini boss fights in-between these skirmishes... stunning, to say the least.
It also warped and distorted the original vision of an FPS set in WW1: sure, it kept that general atmosphere, but it added new enemies & themes that are complete fiction. The description says nearly nothing about the undead rising from their muddy graves, hordes of hellhounds trying to kill you, and ginormous dragons destroying 3 planes in a row.
Not to mention the unreasonable amount of cutscenes and setpieces ocurring in one level: each one of them lasts 30-40 mins or so, but they feel like an hour each from the ridiculous amount of stuff crammed inbetween them.
Weapons feel okay (so far) - they're the only thing that fit in with the WW1 theme so far. Problem is they deal nearly no damage, except for heavier weapons such as the MG 08. You'll have to end up stabbing and poking your enemies if you want to get through the level in a reasonable amount of time.
I will not even mention the combo system - such an idea in a WW1 game is already perplexing, and its actual implementation in this game in particular is amusing, astonishing and confusing.
I see why this has a 60 in Metacritic, neither the players nor critics could figure out this game. It is simply too confusing for the average gamer.

Do I recommend this game? Absolutely. Even though I do not know my current opinion on this game, I would suggest players with more tough & organized minds try to figure out what this game is trying to be, as I have failed in accomplishing such a task.
Well worth the 8 dollars I paid for.

Necrovision is very bad. And it's a shame, since I can see a ton of passion behind it, but for every good thing in it there are two that suck. What sucks even worse is that I would've definitely refunded it but I was already behind 14 days when I began playing it, and I only bothered to finish it cause I paid for it. And I'll also have to play the sequel (prequel actually) as well, but at least it's twice as short and I heard it's a lot better.

Overall there is a nice weapon and enemy variety. Combat can be amusing sometimes, and music is great. Limb dismemberment is great too. And I found the unlockable challenge levels fun. And that's all the good I can say about the game.

To begin with, the field of view is so abysmal that human enemies seem like they are much bigger than you in size. Another problem is that enemies just never seem to die, everyone is a bullet sponge, at least with the weaker weapons you shoot them many times, they fall and then they get up again, and sometimes they get up multiple times. Enemies just refuse to die. When you deal with a multiple enemies at once it becomes a complete mess. Also, when you pick the note it blocks most of your screen but the game does not pause, meaning that enemies can still kill you and some notes are put in areas where there are endless enemies.

What also sucks is how half the weapons have major problems, for example, machine guns' muzzle flash is so massive and bright that you can't see anything when shooting. The submachine gun's recoil is insane. Rocket launcher is too much of a risk to use on regular enemies as they often swarm you in close distance very quickly and you'll end up dealing more damage to yourself than to them, this wouldn't be a problem if you could switch your weapons quickly, but more on that in the next paragraph...

And don't get me started on the inventory navigation, what the hell happened here? Many weapons use the same slot, and yet there are many empty slots during the entire game... And since there is no weapon wheel if you just press the button many times until it equips the right weapon, but it only slowly chances one weapon at a time and in some slots there are like what? 4-7 weapons if not more... It's so tedious and also could've been easily been made a lot better by dispersing the weapons over all the buttons equally, which would make each slot have maximum of 2 weapons. Also, the weapon selection controls are often unresponsive...

Now about the levels themselves:
The first five levels are somewhat of a mixbag. The level design looks like such a mess, you may sometimes struggle to move forward due to all irregulatities of the surface you're walking on. It looks like a bundle of turds mashed together. Still, it is bad but playable, the saving grace is that combat is somewhat amusing which makes these levels mediocre.

Then the rest of the game removes a lot of your arsenal and brings you many new weapons. The level design is absolute dog crap here, huge empty areas, everything is bland and extremely oversized. Yet, at the same time the game spawns neverending hordes of enemies and the rest of the game is just this massacre where you just button mash your way through. It's also sometimes a mystery where to go there are plenty of times where you see gates and who knows what triggers to open them, some open with levers, some open if you kill all enemies in the room, but some gates just seemingly open at random. Also, the compass is almost useless as it often gets stuck on the previous waypoint or points to a completely wrong direction from where you're actually supposed to go. It's plain garbage.
