You are on the message board for the game in question. There are many different threads discussing the merits of the game already in existance. You could easily find them if you looked. What answer do you think you will get the majority of the time when asking such a question on said game's official message board?

Buy it. That is all the information you require is it not?

Personally I prefer Faces of War (same series) to Men of War. Could never really get into MoW for some reason. Don't know about any of the games after this one.

If he gets this there is a conversion that lets you play all the faces of war missions with this game. Check it out if you have not.
I'm pretty late to this thread, but if you haven't bought it you might want to check it out on sale. I picked up the whole series for a few bucks, and though I don't regret my purchase, I can't exactly recommend it either.

I've played a bit of the single player, but I can't get past the third section of actual combat without everyone dying. It's partially the controls, but it's also the lackluster AI. Your units are somewhat self-sufficient, in that they can (and will) aim, fire and move on their own. The problem is that everyone dies really fast. You need to keep them in cover, manage visibility, and micromanage their aim. Think Company of Heroes, but you control EVERY unit, not groups of units. It's really hard to play, because units on both sides will randomly get kills, sit in cover doing nothing, or jump out of cover and run around until they die. For both sides, it seems like we're all wrangling an army of cats.

That said, I really like what works. The cover system is pretty neat, and the more in-depth approach to squad and inventory management makes for a foundation to a game I'd very much like to play. My only hangups are control and AI-related. Presumably, if later entries in this series have better AI and graphics, I'd give them a full recommendation. If I were to tell you not to purchase this game, it would only be to recommend trying a later entry in the series instead.

All of that said, do keep your expectations reasonable.
I have a question: can MOW and other 1c games be played online considering (i belive) gamerspy and other multiplayer providers shuting down like flies?

Yes. I have read people accomplishing such feats of amazement but I do not recall how they went about it. A search engine would be your best bet I think bro.
