War Stories/Honor Roll
I thought with the attachment people get to their soldiers it might be nice to have a thread where folk can talk about their favorite soldiers who've come through in pinches or talk about some of their harriest moments.

In my very first mission I had a soldier named Stefan who managed to storm recklessly into a UFO, kill three greys and survive two close shots of weapons fire without armor and lived to tell the story.
He was out of action healing for 18 days after but it was his first mission and he earned the rank of Sergeant right after. It was impressive.
(Though i probably should have used more caution and better tacics since it was my very first mission)

We were assaulting an alien base, and one soldier took two plasma shot at point blank range. Personal armor blocked both shots. She also did reaction fire against four aliens and killed all of them. She and the entire squad were killed by blaster bombs when I tried to take the control room.

Mine was when I my first alien base, I split my 12 man squad into 4 squads of 3, and as time went on they slowly got killed off until 4 soldiers were left. Those 4 stocked up on the dropped supplies from the dead squadmates using a auto cannon with HE rounds in one hand and a rifle in the other, charged to the control room, carpet bombed it with grenades and HE rounds and managed to fight their way out without taking a single hit on the way out. No idea how they did it, but never felt prouder.

Terror in America, one of my soldiers was placed in the top of a building and told to fire down at enemies. All seemed to be going well but then a group of floaters arived and burst into the room my sniper was in, I thought he was a goner but he just kept shooting. He had a very high aim, never failed me before. That was no different, took down four floaters in one turn, a few lucky misses and a well aimed shot.

Recently I had a soldier I'd renamed Leon Kennedy because he started with the name "Leon" and had really nice stats. I thought it would be fun to have him in my squad but in a mission today he proved his worth.
I was approaching a large UFO and needed to clear a stone wall to proceed so I thought it best to take care of it asap. From a distance I had Leon take an auto shot at the wall in hopes he would hit a few marts and make a wide hole to get many through instead of going single file.
He shot a hole in the wall and his other two shots weren't very good so I thought why not try again and took another auto shot. The first blasted another wall section and the second missed entirely, glying out into the dark part of the map that no could see into yet. but it was in that darkness I hear the distinctive death groan of a fallen Floater.
I was astounded at this shot. I have never had a soldier hit and kill an alien totally by accident before. It was a wonderful feeling of pride for me that I will never forget.

I'm curious to read more of these "war stories." Since I don't have any, here's about ninety-five: http://www.xcom.com/enemyunknown/article/tell-us-your-xcomstories.

I dont have a story as much is it is just a funny charatcer I made. Anyway I have on every file I make a guy I call Boom Boom. I call him this beacause he dosent ever get a weapon I just give him almost alll of the grenades. He was basicly a suicide bomber. Anyway there was a infintie amount of Boom Boom's beacause after one died I would name the next Boom Boom II then after that Boom Boom III ect. Anyway one of my fondest memorys amout the little guy was one time I was on a normal crash site mission. Anyway it was going really well but somthing I noticed was there were no aliens anywhere to be found. So finally I make it to the ship (its a small one thankfully) when I send Boom Boom in there ALL the Sectoids (So about six if my memory is correct) are in there. Anyway I basicly say "Bon voyague!" And rig 2 grenades to (Pun intended) Boom Boom. All six aliens were killed in the blast. And the cost was one Boom Boom

This storys a bit fuzzy beacause it was from one of my first XCOM files I ever made but I digress. Anyway this is one of the biggest fail storys I can remeber. So I land at a crash site mission at night with no electro flares or any sort of fire weapon or light source. So the first thing I notice is that the Skyranger is right across from the alien ship so like a Noobish fool I move all my units into the middle of the space between the Skyranger and the alien ship. I notice theres a farm houses on either side. So to kind of elaborate further let my show a visual
I = Skyranger O = alien ship F = farm house

F
O I
F

So it looked just like that. Anyway what I dident know was that all the aliens where inside the farm house's and at almost perfect sniping points. So in short, the entire space between the alien space ship and the Skyranger is a killing field. With in the first alien turn about 7 of my 12 soldiers are killed. When it was over 5 X-com where left so I moved 4 into the ship where 3 alien where waiting for them (and suprisingly I was able to take them all out) Mean while I start to move my last X-com into the Alien space ship when she's sniped by a alien and knocked out (Danm reaction shots!) Anyway of course those little alien ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s decide to stay in there cozy farm homes and this is easyly the most epic part of the story. Inside the ship I move all my soldiers into tactical positions but I kind of thought "meh I got nothing to lose" So I sent out one of the X-coms to get the knocked out soldier beafore she bleeds out. and I was able to get her to the knocked out body and even picked it up but dident have enough action points to move the soldier back in the alien space ship. So you would think well that soldiers dead right? Well in some screwed up twist of fate the aliens missed every shot until the last alien shots and in some freakish pocket of luck, my X-com survives the shot after it hits her. So im freaking right now and yes thats right I was able to get her back in the alien ship. Anyway the mission ends like this, I camp in the alien ship for the aliens at the farm when 2 enter the ship to kill me. They kill 3 soldier (Including the one with the knocked out soldier in her backpack) I was able to move one of the soldiers (or my last) To a farm house, and sadly it was the one with the aliens inside and he was killed, brutally. Anyway I thought it was a long, but hilarious story that atleaast some of you might enjoy.
P.S that visual elaboration kind of sucked it was supose to look like the farms where on either side of the killing field but the steam chat wont let me do that.

I remember the desperate hunt for a live alien to give me psyonics. I landed with my squad in a skyranger and looked out the hatch and found myself on a farm in the middle of nowhere. There was an etheral soldier right next the skyranger ramp. I remember popping the etheral with a small launcher just praying it was enough to stun him because if I had to stay any longer than two turns my squad was going to be mind controlled into oblivion. He went down thankfully, but then there was the mad dash to pick him up and bring him back to the ship. There was green fire raining down on the men I sent to get the stunned alien. I thik I lost two men before a rookie grabbed him and did a chariot of fire run back to the skyranger. i dusted off and was counting myself lucky, abandond mission and all.
I have no clue what was going on you guys. I was part of Special Assault Division (all the badasses who were aggressive and took ♥♥♥♥ from no one on the field) and no one told me. We got sent to all kinds of weird places. I think they were alien facilities (agency used me and sent me on suicide missions without me knowing about it, I signed on the dotted line, turns out I was part of PROJECT ARYAN too).

Last mission I remember before being let go was Cydonia. There was 9 of us. My original squad I was with.... I have no clue what happened. Time went by so fast the replacements came in and left. It was the quickest 3 years of my life. Im glad the Agency decided to tell us we were on another planet. Alls I remember is waking up on the Avenger on some rough desert terrain at night in a oxygen suit with a jet pack and all hell broke loose and tracers lit up the sky too as if it was 4th of July. Turns out we are on Mars.

I graduated at the top of my class in the PSI labs. I got separated from the original group I deployed with all the time. I got mixed in with others who were in the PSI labs too. I have no clue what happened to the original squad I got put in but I got mixed with others who were like me but with different roles. We had no clue what was going on. We got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off at each other than at the aliens. The Ethereals were a joke. I had no idea this was the mission to save Earth. You dont want to know what happened. The last gun fight I got in was an Elite Ethereal Guard defending the brain after fighting my way through whordes of Mutons to the command room. I pop shot a round right after I took the teleport one floor up. The others rigged explosives around the brain as I kept an eye on the teleports. Who would of thought this was the mission to save Earth. I had no clue what was going on I was lost in my own drama in my own world.

I retired from X-Com and no one never told me not to talk about this but instead I get this weird feeling the Agency is still watching me. Didnt bother me if they were. The replacements I got put with were not replacements. I got put in a group of agents that were graduates at the top of their class too in PSI labs but from different bases and different roles. We got put together and this is how it turned out. I never saw the original group I was with after I got put in Special Assault Division. Later on I found out the low ranking PSI stat agents were let go and a new X-Com was being worked on before Mission Cydonia.

Project Aryan is a program and organization within the Govt that is creating a better human a step closer to perfection is what they told me. Its branched out to society and has an impact on humans and they dont even know it. Not only did they do blood work on me but went off my personality or something not sure. I was being used for a new interface for something for the new X-Com. They kept it quiet so I couldnt pick up on this.

I turned out okay.
