hard hard hard
I know it's supposed to be hard but one word to describe and that's "CHEAP". every other mission the aliens mind controls my rocket lancher makes him turn and kill the ENTIRE team. HELP ME!

Take it easy. You'll eventually learn that UFO isn't (that) hard, it's just misunderstood. Here's some important tips: You don't want your rocket launcher to reaction fire. Ever. Snap shots are too inaccurate, and it's the only fireing mode your soldiers will use to reaction fire. Therefore, if they don't have anything more imporatn to do, you should make your rocketeers waste thier time uints by repeatedly crouching and standing up. That way they won't have enough time units to fire stray rockets all over the place trying to hit the aliens at the end of your turn. This tactic will also prevent mind controlled troopers from fireing rockets! (alternatively you can make them drop the laucher at the end of the turn, then pick it up again on the next turn) As a general tip, try to keep all your troops covered, as the aliens spawn randomly and can easily flank you. Crouching will increase the accuracy of all firearms by 15%. I hope that was helpful, good luck. You're gonna need it commander!

if you get to the point where aliens are mind controlling your troops you shouldn't really walk around with heavy explosives until you learn how to counter this particular aspect of the enemy.

I generally don't use heavy weapons anyway. They're too slow (which means more reaction fire from the aliens) And too inaccurate for my taste, with the exception of the rocket launcher, but only in aimed mode, which is the slowest in the game.

If you're having trouble dealing enough damage, high explosive grenades are a much better solution.

1. They're are readily avalible, without any research.

2. Grenade chaining allows them to be drawen, primed and throwen at a seconds notice. (this can be done by haveing one troop draw a grenade, he doesn't have enough TU to prime it, so he throws it to another who can prime it and then he can throw it to the soldier who need the grenade, who can simply lob it at the aliens. Dispite not originally having a grenade or enough TU to prime it. ^^)

3. They deal more damage than alien grenades,and can be throwen just as easily by strong soldiers.

4. Cannot be reaction fired.

5. Can be tossed over walls, instead of needing to be fired through them.

6. Everyone in your squad can carry at least one with ease

7. pistol weilding troopers can keep one on hand at all times.

I'd also point out that the aliens will typically try to use psi on the weakest troops you have. Unfortunately until you do psionic testing (or cheat with X-Com Util) you can't see what their psi scores are. If you see a soldier get mind controlled keep him around but on the next mission don't even give him a gun. Turn him into an ammo mule/medic instead. Load him up with heavy weapon ammo, grenades, a medkit or two and let him run around distributing extra gear. If the aliens MC him it doesn't matter, he's not going to do any damage, and if they focus their psi attacks on him you're keeping your more valuable troops safe.

There are two mods, one called X-Com Util and one called UFO Extender. I'd suggest picking them up since although they do allow you to cheat they also have a number of bugfixes and other things that help the game run on modern systems.

Just sack the soldiers who constantly get MCed. You can check your soldiers' PSI value by various tools.
