I can't get ufo defense to run on my computer. please help
So i got the game via steam but when I click on "play" I see a small window pop up and then 2 seconds later shuts down. How do i fix this?

Is this a Windows 7 issue? Cause if i play the same game via steam at my office, it works.

Home = windows 7
and
Office = windows xp

When i also try to open the game via steam at home using the "launch windows9x/xp only version" i get the following message "FILE: D\SS\XCOM\UFO Defense\Stubs.c Line:58"

Please help!

Thank you all!

DOS games and many older Windows 95 era games can't find Steam, even if you launch a game from Steam. I think this might be the problem, DOSBox (the emulator packed with the game) is loading up, not finding the game's location where it thinks it is and then closing down again.

You have to add the Steam path to your environment variables, registering Steam's location so that programs can find it.

The 2nd poster in the above thread explains how to do this more clearly than I could probabaly muster.

open the steam gamefolder of Xcom UFO Defence.
then open the file dosbox.config with an editor .
now you see on the first page:
output=surface
change that to output=opengl or output=ddraw
now safe the file.
now give it a try again.

on my vista rig that worked.
