Guys, is this the XCom considered the original or the heart of the series?
I mean to say is it the one old schoolers are writing about when they write about the older XCOM? I would love to play the one I always read people write about which usually goes along the lines of

Old fart gamer #1 - "I think "unkown title" is the best XCOM and maybe the best game period!".

Old fart Gamer #2 - "Yeah!"

Young Whippersnapper #1 "You old farts!"

Thanks for your input vets. I really appreciate any you guys can share. If you could give me some tips maybe too that sure would be great as I hear the game is gloriously difficult. I mean the one whose title I am unsure of as of now lol. I hope/think it is this one.

That is the hardest advice to follow ever.

Placing proxy-nades by the doors is usually helpful ... just don't forget where you placed them.

you can't give a 100 % guarantee that your soliers will survive.
but you can rise the chance of survival for the good ...
examine your soliers befor the mission and mark the soliers with good stats.
now it is easy..
explore with the bad soliers and send them infront ..
your good soliers will follow..
when the bad soldier spot an alien shoot it with the good troopers.
when your bad soldier will get under fire you know that there is an alien..
Sounds rude ?
thats life baby !
survival of the fittest^^,
with this trick you get a lot of realy good soldiers.

Don't just try and kill the worthless spineless rookies with 10 bravery, it'll count against your monthly score, reducing the money you'll get. It's best when building a base assault team to fire them! I know running them into a UFO as a sacrafice is fun, but money is better!!! Grenades are cheaper then recruits aswell, get use to check areas out with them. Also buy 10-14 elctro-flares for your Skyrangers. Night missions are horrible and unfair, AVOID at all cost!!!

I am sorry but I do not understand most of what you wrote.

This is the original that was for PC (and later released on the PS One, still have my copy in the big hard plastic box). One of my all time favorite games. Challenging and fun. The new xcom (not the crappy FPS one, I am talking about enemy unknown) is fun too...but it's just a watered down version of this classic with pretty graphics.

Okay, well here's a good tip which will cost you a bit more money per mission but will fear the crap outof aliens and will make you laugh: get all kinds of weapons that go really hard BOOM-like (like grenades, rocket launchers etc), and blow the living snot outof walls, barns, houses etc., except when roaming in alien spaceships, you want to keep that loot.

I for one can tell you a well placed incendiary grenade will make you grin when hearing a bleary wail of agony from a dying alien nearby a corn field, somewhere in the shadows at night, it really lights the place up in a cheery way.

Plus it's really fun to watch everything blow up. It's ok, X-com has great insurance, the population won't be bothered, you'll pay for the repairs, only fair. That way you'll save X-com marines lives for sure! ;)

Oh and get lasers rechearched asap, they're inexhaustable ammo wise.
And flying armor, they'll fly forever, no jump pack flying with these babies.
AND KEEP SOME *healthy* SOLDIERS IN YOUR BASES. In this game, the aliens get angry and attack them.
