You can either install UFO Extender, which has the option of showing you the current encumbrance. ufopaedia.org also lists the weights of all the items in the game (along with tons of other information).
As a general rule, grenades, flares, clips etc. are weight 3 or so. Guns are around 10, and big guns 20. Rocket launchers are heavy because of the rockets. Plasma weapons are light for their size, though.
Is there any in game way for me to look at how much general stores space something will take up before i move/buy it?
Also it seems that ten grenades take up 1 storage space though i could be wrong
