Fix for Bioschock crash on start on OLEAUT32.dll
If like me you see the game crashing on start, with the signature here below, first thing to try is to plug a jack in the microphone, and start the game again. It worked for me, no need to install anything else.

Thank you for the work-around. Do you know if the vendor is working on a patch to actually fix this issue so folks can play the game without a plug in the microphone slot?

Wow, amazing thanks. It even works with my USB combo mic/headset. Nonetheless, would be great to get this actually fixed...

What it says:

Bioshock is crashing to the desktop on Windows 7 and Windows Error Reporting says the faulting module is OLEAUT32.dll. How do I fix this?

The solution is to navigate into the Steam files, find the Bioshock.exe and run it in compatibility mode for Vista SP 2. Running it in compatibility mode for any other version of Windows has no effect.
