bioshock has no sound after intro

when i downloaded bioshock from the pack after the intro, i get no sound while playing except when i hack a machine

My Bioshock menu gets sound, but when you enter the game is muted. I'm running windows 8 64 bits. Does anyone know how to solve?

Make sure any graphic/sound drivers are up to date. If you have an integrated sound card, i.e. I have an AMD motherboard w/ Surpreme FX card. Never installed the drivers for it since everything worked just fine until BioShock started crashing. Intsalled them and it fixed the issue. If driver updates dont work try changing the compatibility of the BioShock .exe file to Windows 2000, Windows Vista SP 2, or Windows XP SP 2, those seem to be the most likely to fix issue for people. I have mine set to 2000 since all others seemed to crash the game when I loaded into Medical for some reason. If theres still an issue set the launch option in steam to "-dx9" without quotes. Hope it helps

What I eventually did was change the line in the Default.ini under [FMODAudio.FMODAudioSubsystem]

MaxChannels=128
to
MaxChannels=64

This worked for me.
