Is it worth $5?
Believe me, I have seen a lot of overhype for many games, and then they turn out to be ♥♥♥♥tier that expected.

To me, for a game to get a 96 average . . . it should be a pretty good game.

I think that this is probably a good game to thr right person, but I don't know if it's for me.

Please give me a breakdown of gameplay, story and overall lasting appeal, to try and convince me to buy it!

Any help will be greatly apreciated . . . so thanks in advance!

This is a great game. But be careful Windows 7 and 8 users seem to be having issues with Bioshock. No sound crashes.

I'm on Windows 7. Game works perfectly fine with update 1.3. Go for it.

+ Looks good and has a interesting setting
+ Good gun play mixed with "magic"
+ Weapons and magic customisable, so a sense of progression (but not XP)
+ It's been a while but I remember enjoying the story at the time

- Some what linear, but it is a shooter
- I think you may need Games for Windows Live

Skewed towards the postives in my opinion, I thoroughly enjoyed it and still go back from time to time. For $5 I'd say absolutely get it.

When I picked it up for steam, it wouldn't run, just crashed. Tons of research later I found out I had to disable audio before starting the game to get it to start without crashing. (Apparently there had been a game breaking patch, I was so mad, then the whole you can't save in bioshock two unless you sign into microsofts xbox crap, etc. Because of those I refused to get bio shock 3) I'll see if I can get it to run normally now and be back later. (Gotta reinstall)

Bioshock 3 (Infinite) was the first Bioshock game I purchased and I haven't had any of those problems. Thanks for the heads up though, I just purchased Bioshock 1+2 and am in the mdidle of installing Bioshock 1. Hopefully that problem's been patched but who knows.

Hey, if the steam version really is fixed then that's fantastic. I'd played some of it on a friends disc copy and the game was really good with sound, but ♥♥♥♥ without. Without sound = no story and no immersion. And my comment about refusing 3, was because I'd been spurned by the first two games. I've had friends tell me they loved 3 though.
Best of luck then.

It is really worth it altough some times the game crashes on my system

Yeah the game crashes on any pc... it's not really that fussy but the game is beautiful with a very good yet unique story and atmosphere.

I just played the demo and had no sound, but it says that I have version 1.0. So if I buy the game, will it upgrade to 1.3? And is that where the issue was fixed?

I'm enjoying it enough that I stuck with it even after a bug that forced me to start over (an invisible wall didn't get removed and I was stuck and couldn't move on).

In my experience, the lasting appeal of it to me was not the gameplay, which was still very good, but the fantastic storytelling and plot development. It is like being having a great book in video game form. As you play, you can collect audio diaries that tell the history of the world of Rapture (the setting of the game). More specifically, from these you can understand the development of several key characters, and also see how the world around you went from scientific eutopia to wasteland, which was a fascinating tale. As for the real time plot, it is addicting, and you will continually want to play, if just to see what happens next. This is not a good game if you are just looking for a simple pleasure, because the mechanics of the game can be difficult to master. Also, I thought that the game world was beautifully done.
My ratings:
Gameplay: 8
Scenery/Graphics: 9.5
Storytelling: 10
In summary, this game is great for anyone looking for a deeper experience in a video game than just your regular shoot 'em up, or anyone accustomed to playing a wide variety of FPS.

For that story and gameplay it's definitely worth the 5 dollars. I loved the story, that was the most appealing part for me.

Worth it, I haven't had issues with it and Windows 7 so far.

Sound issues are common although I never had them there's still a few fixes floating about here.

I noticed them when I browsed the discussions before buying which I always do.
