Don't let the 50 minutes of game play fool you, I've played this game before prior to steam. The game is amusing. It's fun. Do yourself a favor, get Railroad Tycoon 2. This game is a graphicially enticing version of the second that dumbed down certain aspects of the game by pretending to add content.
Example: In the second one, you had a chance to receive a well stocked area where you started laying your track. The original two cities you decided to go with had a lot of resources but notice after that there are none. There was no turning back so it forced you to actually look at what you were doing and to think a bit. In Railroad Tycoon 3, you have the option to build most of these important buildings, you just have to look for the supplies now. It's slightly a bit easy mode.
Where the difficulty now comes in is really your trains themselves and timing. You now build roundhouses (maintance sheds) and water towers on your tracks instead of building them directly in the stations. It's about the same cost if you are use to the second in the series.
There are some reviews I've seen that state that you cannot select the cargo you are hualing. Ignore those reviews, you most certainly can. Whether it was just not knowing how or meaning that there is no point in doing so is besides the point. YES you can select your cargo. NO it's not worth doing so. Let the trains auto queue up its own cargo to haul. Yeah, another easy mode type tactic.
All in all, it's the same game with some bells and whistles for those that want to kind of just relax, enjoy trains, and not have to worry as much with cargo. It was also great for the creative mind in that you could actually build the business' in this one, everything being outside of the station now. It is not for those that liked the classic ways of Railroad Tycoon 2. If RT2 was your go to, buy this on sale or at least know that the game is meh.
Also, if you are having an issue where you cannot get past the loading screen, google it. There is a patch that you can download and replace a config file within the steamapp folder for the game that removes the Windows 8.1 and 10 bug to make the game playable. Works even after the new Creator update for Windows 10.
I marked the game as recommend as it's a heck of a lot better still than many other games out there similar however, I still stand behind the second in the series is much better.
