X-blades is a straight up hack and slash game, an "okay" one at that. but there are a few things that need pointing out
gameplay: early gameplay is honestly very, very lacking. its a classic hack and slash, so you pretty much just mash buttons, there are no combos to do whatsoever or anything of the sort, so you will only see and use the same moves for the whole game. the game might give combos later in the game (doubt that), but in the few early levels, no combos means boring as sh!t gameplay which is going to turn off a lot of people to continue.
theres the "rage" meter which powers up your skills, it increases when you are hitting, getting hit or charging up your skills to fill your rage. the rage will go down after a few seconds if its not being used so it will indirectly encourage skill spamming and thats not exactly fun to spam the same skills. which brings it to my next point, the early boss has quite a health. not challanging but its a brick, it doesnt do much to you but takes a billion hits to die, not to mention the game mechanic wants you to only be able to kill certain enemies with certain skills, further encouraging skill spam. the first few bosses have me just run around, kill minions to get rage, and shoot the boss. keep doing that until it dies.
thats not very fun , especially in a boss fight, which should be exciting and makes your adrenaline run.
graphics: for the time it was released, i guess it counts as pretty good even though it kinda looks like a ps2 game, which isnt very eye candy. the world design, is not exactly compelling either, but it works. the character model looks like the type that will start an internet flame as she is only wearing something that resembles a thong of some sort.
not much to say here.
story: story is definitely not this game's strong point because its just not that interesting, pretty cliche and predictable.
you probably wont remember the story after beating this game.
music: so far ive been hearing the same soundtrack getting played a couple of times, but its not earbleeding or anything. its okay.
overall not a fun game, but this is the first few levels, which usually the point where it either hooks players or make them turn away. i heard people say the end game is more fun, but with this kind of mechanic im not sure how much more fun there is waiting for me later on. i wouldnt recommend this, and definitely not at full price. got this game on sale at 1$ so i guess i cant complain that much. perhaps if you are really bored or just in case the internet is down you might want this game, but theres a lot of games that are free and waaay better than this one.
