Sadly it's just still so broken that I finally ended up deleting all my SR games last night.

We have no control over what Steam does after we send them the update files. And the only thing "broken" with this update is one of the victory conditions. Our games remain some of the most stable on the market so I have no idea what you're talking about.

You mean you have no control over what Paradox and Valve do after you send Paradox the update files.

With broken, I didn't mean buggy. For example, the new Sniper Elite standalone game released today isn't as much buggy as just full of design flaws. Considering I've had savegame corruption and whatnot in Supreme Ruler titles before (incl SRCW), I could now spend a good while arguing against the "some of the most stable on the market" bit, but that's not going to help anybody.
If you really want to know, the diplomatic behaviour of the AI, like http://www.bgforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=10109 , and the tactical & strategical combat AI and those things were the peculiar annoyance in this particular case. I'm willing to concede that I maybe didn't set the world volatility high enough to make an Allies country care that the USSR doubled its population and power by conquering a neighbour of the UK, allied to the UK (Full Alliance & Mutual Defense), full of UK troops. Also I'll concede that I'm maybe too dumb to set the minister & unit initiative orders so that they will engage in sane yet effective warfare, encircle enemies instead of getting themselves encircled, effectively use short range and long range weapons, and so on and so on; in Hearts of Iron for example it is a lot easier to set up a sports-style "match plan" for your guys, from "Contain" (fall back slowly, minimise losses, try to wear down the oppoent) to "Blitzkrieg" (try to annihilate all enemy combatants ASAP to prevent them from being a nuisance later while also rapidly taking all their territory). I realise the Battle Theater system with its priority & offense/defense setting also plays into there, but I just didn't manage to make it work against an opponent who actually can fight back.
Furthermore, I don't have that good a frame of reference since it's been a while that I last played SRCW (last stopped when my savegame turned into crash-on-load a year ago), but I couldn't find that much of the announced performance speedup. The UI still is reasonably sluggish; having a relatively zoomed out view with many visible units makes it chug along very slowly. If there are any specific settings or workarounds one should use to see decent performance, I must have missed that.

For the record, I played all BGS games and definitely appreciate that Paradox hasn't yet forced you into releasing weekly music DLC and unit sprite DLC, and that you actually release big free updates long after release the way Paradox used to for their own games (and of course still do to a lesser extent).

Thanks for clarifying. I'd still disagree with the word broken, but recognize that despite all we acheived, some things didn't get as far as we'd like. The Battlezone and Theater controls were intended to provide some of the sports style control you're suggesting and can in a number of cases but it's not as refined as we had hoped for. I'll be sure to share your comments with the rest of the team.
