CS:GO Competitive Cooldown
so first i get my first cooldown on 30 mins for leaving a game in competitive mode, and i can understand that. next i get a 2 hours cooldown, which is my own fault aswell.
after that i get this 1 day cooldown, because "cs:go stopped working" partly my fault too, since it might be a problem with my computer, so i totally formatted my drives.

and now.... i was playing a game with my friends, we are almost winning, when i get kicked off the server, fair enough i thought, server problems might happen, and they made this awesome "reconnect to match" botton or something like that, so i did that like 50 times, but the connection time kept running out. I quickly minimized to see if i was still connected to the internet, and i found that i WAS! so i go back in and try 2 more times, only to find that i have been cooldowned for 7 days.

i ticketed this, and i'm looking forward to having my cooldown withdrawn ASAP!

also, when does the ban time get back to like 30 mins again?

The ban level decreases one level after 1 week.

If you abandon 1 game a week or less, you will never get more than a 30 minute ban.

Try to make the crashes or connection problems stop before trying matchmaking again. Even after your week ban.

Type cl_disablehtmlmotd 1 in console, as the message of the day has caused issues for some.

The reconnection issues you outlined sound like a steam error. So you might have to reinstall or repair the steam installation as well.

Thanks for your help, Lash!

do you know if anyone have managed to get their cooldown canceled, by ticketing their issue?

There have been attempts I've seen, with responses from developers in the forums, you could try your luck :) Haven't heard any successful cooldown cancels from support or otherwise though. Support just say it is automated and their hands are tied, i'm afraid.

I messaged support, the response I got was that they have no way of moding the cooldown system or appealing anyones ban. You just have to wait it out. Yeah, I was ticked too. i think the whole cooldown thing is a bad idea, and there are much better ways to do it. Needless to say, my respect for Valve has dropped.

thats the reason why the first cooldown is so short... that when there's an issue once, that you can continue playing after doing your shopping.
When you stack em up, you have the risk of a looong cooldown.

Here is a developer reply explaining how this can happen:

"
The rules are as follows: every cooldown increases the offense level by one level and after cooldown expires and a clean week goes by the offense level goes down by one level. First level offenders receive a 30 min cooldown, second level = 2 hr, third level = 24 hr, fourth and higher levels = 7 days. The confusion might arise for extreme abusers of the system whose offense level went beyond level 4 now.

Here's an example: A player reaches offense level 4 and gets their first 7 day cooldown on Jan 1, it expires on Jan 8 -- this means player can play, but their offense level stays at 4 for the duration of one more week. If player commits a competitive offense on Jan 8 then offense level is increased to level 5 and player is penalized with another 7 day cooldown. That cooldown expires on Jan 15 -- again, this means that player can play, but their offense level stays at level 5 for the duration of one more week. So, after the clean week goes by on Jan 22 the offense level goes down by one level to level 4. Committing a competitive offense on Jan 22 will increase it again to level 5 and assign a 7 day cooldown according to the rules listed above.

Essentially if you got your second or third 7 day cooldown in a row this means you need to have two or three clean weeks after it expires before it goes down to offense level 3 which is penalized with a 2 hr cooldown.

Valve are idiots for thinking this system could work... I play soo much my cooldown could never drop and when steam crashes and WILL NOT RECONNECT just says NO CONNECTION on bottom even though I have internet to everyhting else , origin, ts3, web browser... So a couple of bad games and some steam fails and you will never be able to play cs go again. BS

Lol i wonder how valve thinks... this cooldown thing is useless about friendly fire situations ^^ They want to make a better game while they are alot of hackers, so why dont they try to eliminate those hackers and stop making everything automated :D

It's extremely annoying when it's not even your fault... you can be in the middle of a game, playing well and then suddenly you time out. You try the reconnect - no luck. You check your net connection, test other servers and it's all fine. Just can't get back on at all. So not only is your game ruined, you can't even play another until the cooldown is gone! Very VERY annoying.

I've contacted support and they have not replied, great customer service I think. This cooldown system penalises the wrong people for the wrong lengths of time. The reason I got banned for 7 days was,"Kicked too many times." I got kicked from 1 game in 3 weeks! It went from no ban to 1 week long!

I wish people could join in on empty slots. People leaving really cripples the team when they're replaced with bots.

i personally support the penalty system. it is good for us but it needs further tweaking.

i have played cs since 1.1 (but my first try was with 1.0) but i somewhat always missed out on real team based gaming. i was a clan member 2 times but i participated in 2 wars altogether in my ...counting... 12+ years with cs. that left me with public and we all know how annoying that can be. 12 years olds screaming in the mic (voice is off because of them), cheaters, and other uncivilised players. i got fed with it and havent played cs(:s) for months against human players.

now with cs:go it seems that my prayers have been heard. now i can play a bit more seriously in competitive mode without the commitment of clan warfare and again after a long time i have fun.

because people its a competitive game mode. if you join a match, you accept that you have responsibilities, that things are expected of you and if you dont fulfill that commitment you will be penalized. of course accidents happen, but they are on our side of things. maybe our teammate has run in front of us, still, we pulled the trigger. maybe our pcs bsod-d or our connections is crappy - to be rude its our problem, we should solve it.
most every gamer connects to a competitive game with the expectation that theyd have a good time - 1 person shouldnt destroy the experience for nine other people - or if he does should be punished.

i however support the idea of the possibility to forfeit a match by voting eg. i dont get frustrated much about playing on the losing side but i know many people do. teams should be able to throw in the towel if all members (or at least 4) vote so.
