The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

GTX 550 for Skyrim
One reviewer said he/she ran skyrim at max settings. Is that a good card to go for then?

With that card, running the game on ultra settings will yield less than 30 fps. Go for at least a GTX 660 if you want better frame rates than that.
The frame rate depends on the video card, the resolution of your monitor (assuming the game is played at the native resolution of that monitor) and to a lesser extent the CPU. From my experience: a GTX 560 ti (or the newer GTX 660 ti) will provide decent frame rates at high to ultra settings and the high res dlc at 1920 x 1080. The GTX 680 allows ultra settings at 60 fps with vsync enabled.
ok thanks, its that the card is cheap, with positive reviews. I posted another thread asking about the HD 6870. oh and the resolution is 1440x900 i think.

A GTX 550 will run this just fine. I have a GTX 550Ti and get solid 60 fps on high and 55 fps on ultra. I leave my settings on high because there isn't a noticible difference on the two. My res is 1600 x 900.
ok thanks.
it would also depends on the manufacturer of the card too.
ive seen many posts around with 550s and 560s that either cant, or have a hard time running Skyrim.
i, myself have an Asus 550ti, i have had no issues with Skyrim.I run MANY 4k highres texture packs and still running between 35-60fps
ok thanks.
