Skyrim on Windows 8
I have recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and after smoothing out some issues with Windows updates and audio driver updates, found that Skyrim is now running at least 5-10% faster than before. So far, I am pleased with the game's performance on the new OS. I would like to know, however, if it will cause issues with graphical bugs and such? My AMD Catalyst drivers are up to date. Anyone have any issues with the game running on Windows 8 RTM?

Update your video drivers. I'm using AMD Catalyst 12.8, which is Windows 8 ready. Update your audio drivers, also.

I have Windows 8 Pro 64bit (System Builder), and I find Skyrim is running fine. Although I did have the Crash To Desktop just like when I was on Windows 7 64bit, but I load it back up and it ran fine. The memory, and performance is so much better on Windows 8 Pro 64bit than Windows 7 64bit.

I concur. Runs better than ever before, even with the hi rez texture pack which used to crash it for me. Part of it though, I'm sure, is going from a 32 bit windows 7 to a 64 bit 8. Can finally benefit from all 16 gigs of RAM lol.

If I wanted my computer OS to feel like a police state, I would buy an Apple.

Why do people even get Win 8 for a standard PC? Why does Microsoft not just start a new Windows series for touch devices instead of ruining the experience for non-touch PC users?

Seriously I see zero reason to upgrade.

sky is running 10-15% faster on win8? what did you do to your windows 7 installation?
banzaigtv 1 NOV 2012 a las 9:49
Yeah, seriously. Windows 8 boosts my graphics performance. Not only in Skyrim, but also when playing Crysis 2 in windowed mode (same resolution), my fps increased from 30 to 45. I have to admit that Windows 8 is a pain when it comes to IE, task manager, and a few apps that freeze and don't pop up on demand, but it makes my Radeon HD 6770 run as if it is a Radeon HD 6850 instead! I'm hoping for some Windows updates that will fix app stability very soon, but other than that, Windows 8 is fantastic for gaming!

EDIT: Updated the GPU driver to AMD Catalyst 12.10 for Windows 8 64-bit and some of the application launching bugs appear to have been resolved. There's still work to do on both my part and Microsoft's. Also, the headset audio quality has improved tenfold after an audio driver update. I'm lovin' it!!!

I can confirm this, most of the games run faster on windows 8, with skyrim there are some minor problems, in my case in full screen mode window borders are shown as if I was playing windowed mode with my monitor's screen resolution.

Windows 8 is superior to 7 in nearly every way. Don't believe what the herd tells you.

the only thing i dont like about win8 is the silly start menu and how they seemed to go out of there way to make it a hassle to actually use it as something more than a phone app , its like they took the bad idea of "gadgets" and decided to make the whole os run like 1 , if they would just release an update to ditch the ui for something a little more user friendly i would love it . and yes i know i could just istall start8 or poki ,but it just bugs me that i have to go third party to make my operating system function rite , see i'm pretty min spec , i dont want another layer just to be able to use my machine the why i like to

Don't talk about something if you don't know anything about. Your comment: "Why do people even get Win 8 for a standard PC?" says you have no idea. Windows 8 performs a lot better than 7. Here Nalcarya, why don't you Learn to Read and review this link http://kotaku.com/5935337/lets-see-how-windows-8-performs-against-windows-7 and then review your own idiotic comment.

You see zero reason to upgrade because you have, "zero" idea of what you speak of.
