Setting up a controller for Skyrim
I'm trying to set up a control for skyrim. I've done some quick searches on the subject and then remembered the discussions here.

Is there any software that you all would recommend? Also, I will be updating this thread with the actual controller later on since I don't have it in front of me.

Any helpful suggestions in the mean time, would be helpful.

Thanks!

1- Buy an Xbox 360 PC controller

2- Plug in

As easy as that, no need to fiddle with anything as the controls are all set up. Personally I prefer to play with mouse and keyboard with my hotkeys and more fluid camera but if I ever want to play with a controller it's as easy as that.

All you need to remember is to unplug the controller when you want to use the mouse and keyboard or otherwise it will default to the controller and you can't use both at once.

I bought an XBox controller too and it works great, but I had to ponder if I really wanted to spend that much on a gamepad. I don't regret it but it is very expensive.

I had a 10$ or less gamepad PS3 style, with vibration. A Cyberlink-something.
I got it to work with x360ce:
http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/detail?name=x360ce.App-2.0.2.163.zip&can=2&q=

That program crashed the game on exit but the save games where not affected.
The biggest problem with my cheap gamepad was the dead zone of the sticks: the dead zone was so wide that it was impossible to aim (and I play with an archer).

So, If you're looking to save some money, try x360ce, or if you want satisfaction, get an Xbox 360 controller.

I agree with you, @Aleitheo. Mouse is very precise. What made me buy a gamepad was the pain in my wrists. Now I can play from my couch :D

It's all preferences really, some games work better with a gamepad and it can be nice sometimes to just lie back and play

Everyone, thanks for you input.

After reading everything said so far, I will be trying my logitech controller again. Here's the link for the controller I have:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-940-000106-Rumble-Gamepad-F510/dp/B003VAM392/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351376343&sr=8-1&keywords=LOGITECH+RUMBLE+GAMEPAD+F510

I tried this one earlier and it just wasn't recognized. A friend also suggested the x360ce, I just haven't hal ooki tet to look it up.

I have a generic ps3/pc controller that was an extra one my other friend had, and that one did not work at all.

My biggest obstacle is I use to play this one PS3 and I had just made the switch to go from ps3 to pc for my gaming needs, especially with steam.

I'll give the x360ce a try and see if I can't it to work, but if anyone has a chance to take a look at the link and tell me if that controller will work fine as a plug in play for the game, I'll just stick with that.

Thanks again for the input everyone. It is greatly appreciated.
