Hearthfire: Kids Won't Accept Any Dog

Having an issue with my son Alesan and Daughter Runa, not accepting any dog I bring home. Is anyone else having this problem?

You can not name your own kids. They are preset.

On topic, after having my husband test a theory on his profile, I have come to the conclusion that each kid has their own preset animal they prefer as a pet. My husband brought Meeko back to his kids and his son Hroar wanted to keep him. I brought the same dog home to my kids and nothing. No interest at all. Can anyone confirm that this may be the case with the children in the game?

Happened to me once. In the end I reintroduced the same dog after a 48 hour period (a different dog was also rejected) and it was accepted. Your problem might be less easy to solve. Perhaps you have to revert to an earlier save if that is possible. Preferable one just before the first time you brought a dog to meet the children.

I thought the pet part might be time based, I'm just letting time pass to see if they appear, themselves, with a pet. I read elsewhere that they can appear with a rabbit or a fox asking to keep it as a pet. Just as long as they don't bring home a mammoth!

Has anybody noticed, I think it's Falkreath in my game, that here are three rats in the basement? Two of them attacked me and I killed them but one just scuttled about without attacking. I let it live and now it just hangs around in the basement. I wondered if that was a possible pet for that house.

I haven't had any rats show up in my home. I did read online that Skeever is on the list of possible pets in the game. I did also find online that there is a possible bug for the children that will prevent them from ever having pets. No way around it from what I can tell. There is also a spider,fox,rabbit and skeever. Lookds like I will be restarting my game again.
