The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Honestly, Oblivion's main quest was much better.
It had Sean Bean in it.

Why was he so important? Never played the game.

He voiced the main character of the main quest. Martin Septim.

Thanks for the info. Now I'll know and understand when I play it (oblivion)
Christopher Plummer could kick Sean Bean's arse with one hand tied behind his back!
Both games had snooeze worthy plots...but at least Oblivion had the cool looking Daedric areas within the Oblivion gates.
oblivions main quest was awseome, skyrims main quest is pretty good, still need to finish morrowinds.

No he can't. He is an old man, he can probably barely move.

I found Martin to be quite annoying and them cheering "All Hail Martin Septim" was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. In the end I was glad he sacrificed himself. Skyrim's main story was better (I didn't feel like killing the main characters) but side quests were crappy in Skyrim. Oblivion wins in the side quest area, along with being able to run multiple highly scripted mods without issues, no risk of running into a 3.1GB RAM limit with texure mods since the game is older... etc..

Well I think Oblivions main quest was better since it took more time to complete and actually required some real progression. The side quest in Oblivion though were great, they were pretty lengthy and did require some progression to complete, although not as much as Morrowind. I honestly, have never even beaten Morrowinds main quest despite playing it so much, it just has so much stuff in that I get side tracked quickly.
Oblivion's story and quests were generally much better than skyrim... Oblivion was much more challenging too... I still think skyrim is much more fun to play though.
What skyrim is lacking in quest it makes for with its world.
Oblivion's main quest had more bang to it. When the daedra invaded, they actually fricken invaded. With seige tanks and everything. When the dragons invaded, they derp around and menace a few towns or villages but never really make a concerted effort out of eliminating anything but the local bear/saber tooth tiger population.

But I found fighting dragons to be more fun and rewarding than closing the oblivion gates. long before the end of the main quest I was sick of those gates and the whole process of tower climbing and oblivion navigating just to close one gate.

Each game has had some big hits and some big misses. I still find to this day that Morrowind has a more compelling plot. While Oblivion's big reveal from Mankar was more shocking. Skyrim never even had that big reveal within the plot. Just BOOM you're dragonborn, go kick some dragons' ass. Oh and here's some legendary shouts you'll rarely ever use because you're too badass to be bothered. Overall, gameplay has definately improved from game to game. I cant wait for the plot to catch up.

I use to use the console collision command to levitate my way up to the top of those oblivion gate towers. I did close a few gates and the great gate without using the console command, but once you've closed one gate, you've closed them all.

Same and I didnt feel bad for doing it because I missed the levitation/teleportation spells from morrowind
Morrowind had the best main quest. Oblivion has the best faction quests. Skryim has the best side quests.

Um, have to disagree on the last part there ( I am well aware this is a matter of opinion, but still). I actually found the faction quests in skyrim to be very good, that is, their "main" story lines. the side quests however were subpar compared to Oblivion's- In skyrim I found that most of the sidequests followed the same formula, "hey, I lost this [insert random item name here] in the [insert name of random dungeon here]. Now go and fetch it for me".

It hasn't been that long since I played skyrim, yet the only quest I can really remember without thinking too hard is the search of the redguard woman in whiterun. As opposed to Oblivion, which I only made a playthrough ages ago, and still remember quests like "whodunit", Valen Dreth, the living painting, the ring in the well, the grey prince's ancestry, the manhunting orc, etc.

It was the great quality of the oblivion's sidequest that actually made me preorder Skyrim in the first place, and honestly, I kinda regret doing that now after seing the drop in quality. I don't regret buying it, just not at full price. Whenever the next elder scrolls is released, I will likely wait a bit for a drop in price, unless the word of mouth says the side quests have improved.

If anyone here loved skyrim, but have yet to try Oblivion, I urge you to give it a try.
