So... did we get Dawnguard?
Cause by the look of this giant fort I'm looking at and the Dawnguard.esm in my data files, I'd say we did.

In the process of seeing if I have the content I guess I did technically start the quest. I hope they don't ruin my account status or my save state over a mistake they made. =/

I bought skyrem because i heard dawnguard was free... I hope they let me keep it =))
I was at my friends when they started to get super excited i wanted the game in the first place. But this was my selling point. Although i bought it after the fact, does it mean i have dawnguard?

When you load the game and you get the half-window Play Game option, click the option Data Files. If you see Dawnguard.esm in the data files then yes you have it.

They already fixed it. It was a mistake.

Can you please provide a link stating it's fixed?

Sorry, it looks like the thread has the first half of it missing...

Am I right in thinking that you have bought Vanilla Skyrim, and have got Dawnguard with it by mistake?...

I've just read another topic where people said that.

Can they even tell if someone has deleted it or not? I mean, if you get a Danguard achievement it becomes kind of obvious, but otherwise...

Edit: Does it even track achievements to dlc you don't have the licence for?

Well since this was released as an update that thousands of people got I'd assume that it's legit, an enormous mistake on someone's part, but legit nontheless. I highly doubt that they'd ban anyone's account over something that thousands of people have recieved through no fault of their own.

Bizarroskull 24 sep 2013 om 9:38vm

Technically, if you actually bought Skyrim, and got the extra DLC, then Valve can't take it away. The transaction was done and your statutory rights are clear.

If you got it by an update by mistake, then I think they can return it back to them. But if it was included in a purchase, then you got it fair and square and they can't take it back. Not sure how US law goes but that is the way it is in the UK.

Possibly, they aren't going to be ♥♥♥ holes about it, because customer service is also high priority, and good faith is a quality that they might use here...those who got it might be ok, and they will be looking into the issue from here on in...

I'm just guessing there..but it is what I'd do if I was Valve's head of Marketing and Sales...

I posted this on another such thread, but I'll post it here as well:

I remember a U.S. consumer protection law (I am not a lawyer) that applied to items sent through the post but may also apply here. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, some companies would send things through the post that people did not order, then require them to pay for those items. The laws that addressed those situations as I remember it were such that if you received something you didn't order, it was yours to keep and you didn't have to pay for it.

For those in the U.S., I suggest you contact your state attorney general consumer affairs office (for free) if you have any questions about ownership or licensing of the free Dawnguard download. It's quite likely that it and the license for it are yours to keep as though you purchased it, and there's nothing either Steam or Bethesda can do once you have received it.

Meanwhile, enjoy it! Dawnguard is a fun DLC! (I bought the Legendary Edition so I didn't benefit from the free download.)

Having seen this downloading (only realised because it lagged out my pvp in gw2, sodding steam.....) I tried the game for first time in ages.
The dlc now shows gone, luckily, but the file was still on my system for a while.
I`ve no horse combat so I`m assuming they fixed it, I hope.

I`d rage quit due to having killed a boss before having the quest & no console/bug fixes have ever been brought to fix that for loads that`ve suffered followed by a steam fail where I lost all my saves many moons ago.

Now I`m starting over & know not to kill that boss, I don`t want steam feckin` it up all over by screwing my saves, hope this is sorted properly as I`d forgotten I enjoyed this game :)

Now to go grab all my mods from Nexus again ;p
