Please help me! Skyrim... virus?
Hey everyone, I am seriously considering hitting my head aganst the wall consistently after my Skyrim has seemed to be injected with what I consider a virus or something? When I launch Skyrim, I get the general "Data Files" screen, I disable and delete all mods. I click "Play". The Bethesda animation doesn't show up, and skips to the Main Menu. I select a save file, and as soon as it loads... CTD/Crash. No matter what save I load, even if I create a whole new game. I've tried everything, Verifying the Game Cache, etc. I am 100% sure my game saves are NOT corrupted because no matter which one I load it crashes. And I have tried deleting every mod. Sorry if this post has been a little repetitive, I am absolutely fuming, especially because this only started after STEAM (there's a surprise -.-) updated Skyrim, or should I say screwed it up. Thanks everyone who can contribute to this problematic disruption to my gameplay.

Do you have SKSE installed? That wouldn't be shown in the Data Files screen, but something there might have been messed up after Steam update.

Most likely mod conflict [ie, the save files are crashing because of the missing mods]
You can't just "remove" mods from an existing save file, as it can cause problems [considering that save-file is dependent on that mod information].

You need to test your setup with a NEW character [aka starting over with a new save file]; and remove as many mods as possible. If it resolves itself, then it was a mod conflict or a corrupt save-file.

ALso, Skyrim was updated many months ago. If a SKyrim update did "mess up" your system, then again it is a mod conflicting with the update.

These are the consequences of using mods; I know it sucks but it is the price we pay if we decide to use mods. To alleviate this stress, many play SKyrim in the unmodded form and still have fun.

I don't remember install SKSE, but I do have various folders marked "SKSE" or "SKSE_Loader", things like that.

Ya, I have Norton, but it's quite an old version. Maybe I'll go for a quick scan. But I was working this very day. I turned off my laptop, turned it back on later, it updated and next thing I know it doesn't work anymore.

Yep, then you do have it there. You might try to download again use the installer program to ensure that all files are functional after Steam update.

Edit: And remember to launch your game from SKSE's Skryim launcher, instead of the default launcher.

I don't want SKSE. That's the problem. I guess if I reinstall SKSE I can cleanly uninstall it... or can I?

Unfortunately SKSE didn't have unsinstaller the last time I used it. I am unsure if there is one now. I removed it manually and that was quite a chore, because there were files in the Data folder as well. After that I ran CCleaner and verfied the game files from Steam.

Let's not rush it. There might be another solution for your problem.

Anybody know how I can get a log of my Skyrim Client and see if I can get a look at what's going on under the bonnet, if you know what I mean.

I've just deleted the "Scripts" folder. No difference. Thank you for all of your help so far.

It would be wise to download an SKSE archive file from http://skse.silverlock.org/ and compare what is inside of it against what you have inside of your installation folder. That way there shouldn't be any remnant SKSE files, or accidentially deleted game files.

Yep, just tried this. Still nothing :( I am seriously considering just smashing my hard drive up :(
Gaming is what I enjoy, and when I can't do it, I feel pointless.
I do however feel the problem is concerning SKSE, as there is no Bethesda logo animation.

I don't think it is a virus try to start a new game and see what happens. Delete all your saves off.

I had the same problem as I tried to put SKSE on at level 57 because I got fustrated with the legendary system. The legendary system was not well thought through in my opinion.

I like the uncapper better. You really only have to be so high after that it is just crazy. I do not think I will ever make a skill legendary again. But that is my opinion.

You obviously hadn't read my posts clearly or correctly. I have said, I tried deleting all saves and creating a new game. Neither which work. Thank you.
