I keep hitting my followers
Is there a mod or something that will prevent me from hitting followers in combat, it's getting really old and can't be avoided it seems.

dunno about mod
if you have dragonborn dlc you can get a "buff" from a black book where you can chose that they dont take damage and such

but to control them not to go in the way and such again dont know sorry :/

A lot of us tend to prefer supplying our Followers with ranged weaponry...that way, they don't run in your way as much...

They still get in the way too much. The best you can do is target your follower with the console <`> open and issue a "sifh 1" to turn off friendly fire for that NPC. No idea how long it lasts, though.

There are plenty of mods out there to make followers Essential so they can't die.

I tend to use Amazing Follower Tweaks though.

It automatically makes followers essential and has an option for them to ignore friendly fire, though they'll still take damage, they won't get annoyed at you for it.
It also has a lot of other really nice tweaks for them.

I seem to have found a way to still use my bow and avoid hitting followers and summoned creatures too much. When everyone is crowded into a tight corridor, you can shoot "past" them since the edges of their bodies don't seem to stop arrows.

On open ground, I still haven't figured out how to work around them dancing and jumping directly into my line of fire. Big Atronachs help though - folks tend to stand thier ground around them rather than having a dance competition.

I don't like having my followers set to essential, it makes the game too easy if they don't die. I'm playing on legendary mode for maximum challenge. Guess I'm just gonna have to be careful.

Just kill them all and move on from there... legendary's more fun solo anyway.

IF you have the dragonborn DLC one of the blackbooks gives you a perk that makes it so you no longer damage your followers in combat. Failing that the ultimate follower overhaul UFO mods gives you the option to tell your followers to give you space. You can also chose followers who favor the bow, they tend to stay at range instead of running in front of you.

i do have the UFO mod but I've never noticed the option of telling them to give me space.

It gets somewhat annoying too because that's how I killed Lydia.

Am I the only one who's followers never get in the way? Anyway,

I recommend using a mod called "Ultimate Follower Overhaul". I've always used it, and it's a great mod. You can select a command with the mod that sets followers essential, and even so that they won't turn hostile on you if you accidentally hit them. They'll just ignore it.
