Skyrim Crashes After Selecting a New Game
II just recently bought Skyrim so I have no mods installed whatsoever. When I start up Skyrim i have the usual main menu, then I click on new so I can start a new game. The dragon loading screen pops up for about 40 secs. and then my game just quits out to my desktop. I have verified the game and it says that it has found 1 missing file, but it doesn't install anything! Please help me!

I would advise that you post your Operating System and Other system info (CPU GPU RAM)

I suggest that you first Verify your game cache. Doing this will reset your .Ini files (The plain text that stores all your settings) and check for file corruption. Afterwards, try and start a game without adjusting your settings from default (Or reduce them all to low)

If you still have problems and have a dedicated Graphics Card, go download a newer version driver. (I use Nvidia and recommend 314.22)

Next I would make sure you have all the Important Windows Updates downloaded. (OPTIONAL) Mainly your .NET updates. Im not sure if Skyrim runs on .NET, But ive had many games crash in the past from an outdated .NET Framework.

I dont know the specs of your computer, but if its low performce, it could just be crashing out from RAM limits and the such. Hence why I suggest you turn every setting to low

I got the intro to work by setting the game to low and windowed mode, but then it later crashes during the cart scene before I get to the town.

314.22 isn't needed anymore

What?

I know that 320.18 and 320.49 have been released but from reading the notes on the 320.18 for their GTX 660 setup it looks like the FPS went up from 68 to 71. Unless there was some other technical reason why newer drivers are crashing the game, I think you'd still be fine with 314.22 given the FPS increase is at best negligible between the .22 and the 320.18 release. I don't see any optimizations noted for the 320.49 unless I'm missing something.

I use 320.49 with my 670 with no noticeable problems.

You dont need 314.22 any more. 320.49 driver is fine for today. Try it.
