Discussion about modding skyrim
So I recently started modding skyrim and I was wondering if you could get into any trouble by downloading a weapon from another game or is it illegal? (for example the soul reaver from legacy of kain) I havent downloaded it yet. But just curious, I know garrys mod has a ton of stuff on it with content from different game is that any different?

You wouldn't get in trouble for downloading and using it, or at least so long as it's from a reputable place like the Workshop or the Nexus. The person who created the mod may get in trouble, but I'm not even certain about that.

TECHNICALLY they can get in trouble, but not without warning from the owners of the thing we are talking about.

BUT they won't because it is free video game advertising.

An exception was made in the case of a Lord of the Rings Mod that replaced all of Skyrim with the LOTR world, why did they get in trouble?

It was basically its own stand alone game that was completely free, and so it actually took potential money away from Warner bros

Some devs allow their content open for modding, example CDProject and Witcher 2 or Enmass/Bluehold and TERA.
