I'm getting skyrim soon and I was wondering...
Ok, So I know about the start of skyrim but I was wondering if I should do anything first before killing the first dragon, I know getting the stones and looting but is there anywhere I should go before I start the going full main quests?

Skyrim is a game that is enjoyed best if you think about it yourself instead of asking others for help. So just do whatever you feel is right.

(but you should totally check out Pinewatch though..........)

Unless of course you are believe that knowing is half the battle, try checking out some of the elder scrolls wikis.

I would personally recommend you go through and just play the game once however you see fit, and then in following playthroughs decide when to go ahead with the main quest, but as username5679 said it's really just best to play it however you choose to.

i agree. skyrim is an rpg, in an rpg you take the role of the character, you don't control the dragon born, the dragon born is more like your body in tamriel (where strangly your mind is very detached).

i have two tips, don't read too far ahead (or watch to far with lets plays) and if you mod the game - don't install to many. i am about to start my 3rd characher and i have yet to finish the game because i modded it too much. (mods damage saves if you install and uninstall too many).

of course if you have no care for spoilers then you can ignore my first tip

I just pulled enchant and craft on 100 before the first dragon so i had an armor that would be appropriate for a dragon.

Yeah, just go your own pace. There is plenty of side quests to do while doing main quest. Me personally I did a lot of side quests and drew out the game to make it funner. Did not finish the main quest line till I was close to 40 because I was doing side missions. This was without mods and the expansions.
