Is there any essential mods?
Hi, basically I played skyrim and did many many hours (think my guy hit 46 and had a ton of other dudes as well) so I was wondering what mods would help make the game better besides the dlc which I didn't get a chance to try. For example I heard theres one that allows spears and I always wanted to make a spear argonian and that use to be their gig then remembered there is no spears =(.

Also is there a proper list of the things the dlc added? I heard that light armour is now viable as daedric isn't just better in every way now but is there other major things I should know of or other major mods that make it way more fun?

One main thing I would love is a mod to make loot better cos as I remember it took about 5 hours or less maybe before I was crafting things 100x better than anything I found so my looting consisted of only stuff to sell so I could buy ore, and then soon after no looting at all cos I had aa suit of the best possible stuff enchanted to the best it could be. That was when I stopped playing last time really.. realised I was basically just exploring dungeons for the sake of seeing what they looked like.

you need falskaar - its basically an unofficial dlc - do you know how to download on nexus?

I'd start with Skyrim Redone (SkyRe)[skyrim.nexusmods.com]. It changes almost every aspect of the game with several different modules. The main changes are a complete overhaul of all the perk trees (it adds a myriad of new perks and tweaks some existing ones), makes combat faster and more realistic, completely revamps every spell in the game, adjusts enemy scaling and ai, and much more. And of course, you can turn off the parts you don't want. It supposedly doesn't work well with a lot of mods, but I've never had any difficulties with incompatibility. I'm pretty sure it adds spears, too. If you're looking to throw spears, try Throwing Weapons Redux[skyrim.nexusmods.com].

SkyUI[skyrim.nexusmods.com] and A Quality World Map[skyrim.nexusmods.com] are practically essential in my opinion, as they get rid of the clunky console UI and greatly enhance the world map with several different options, respectively. UFO[skyrim.nexusmods.com] overhauls the follower system and lets you have a max of 15 followers, enough for a small army. Use Convenient Horses[skyrim.nexusmods.com] to give them their own trusty steeds.

Deadly Dragons[skyrim.nexusmods.com] and Dragon Combat Overhaul[skyrim.nexusmods.com] will cause you to need a change of pants after a dragon encounter. Use them together for an impossible experience.

For textures, I recommend Skyrim HD[skyrim.nexusmods.com] for the complete package, Project Reality[skyrim.nexusmods.com] for lighting and weather, Book of Silence[skyrim.nexusmods.com] for weapons and armor, and Pure Waters[skyrim.nexusmods.com] for your water.

Finally, here's a few good roleplay and immersion mods. Frostfall[skyrim.nexusmods.com] makes weather a significant factor and forces the player to adapt to Skyrim's harsh weather. It adds camping to the game as well. You'll only really have to worry about freezing to death up in the far north near Winterhold, Dawnstar and such. Realistic Needs and Diseases[skyrim.nexusmods.com] makes you eat, drink and sleep, and adds damaging effects to you if you choose not to take care of yourself. Combine it with Frostfall for a hardcore survival experience.

Don't forget the unofficial patches: (Skyrim[skyrim.nexusmods.com], Hearthfire[skyrim.nexusmods.com], Dragonborn[skyrim.nexusmods.com], Dawnguard[skyrim.nexusmods.com]).

I could really go on and on. There are countless great mods out there. If you want to keep looking, check out Nexus Mods' Top 100 (Non Adult) Mods[skyrim.nexusmods.com]. You'll find several more there.

Enjoy.

wowzer thanks, is it easy to download and install them? I just feel the need to ask as honestly I've so far failed completely to make texture packs for minecraft work and that surely is about as simple as *mods* get.

Should be, yes. You'll need an account on the Nexus. Here's an excellent tutorial about the Nexus Mod Manager and how it works... here. It's a bit long, but definitely worth watching. Also, skip all the stuff about Fallout Mod Manager since it only applies to Fallout Games. There's a table of contents in the description so you can skip around.

The Interesting NPCs mod is one of my all-time favorites. It adds dozens of unique, fully voice-acted (well, it's still a work in progress) characters to the game, some with quests, and some potential followers. When combined with the fantastic mods Heisenberg listed, Skyrim is a true joy to play.

I second this. It really does add tons of personality to the game.

I've been trying to download the unoffical skyrim patch from nexus and it keeps giving me an error, that the server was unavailable. I just got done downloading and installing other mods though. Is it just this one mod that is down? Can anyone who is familiar with the program a little more check? Thanks.

I was just wondering for the textures do you mean to get ALL of them or do you mean get the hd or the others individually if you want specific things done instead? Also I've got the HD, dragon combat overhaul, and the UI and world map one, will the big overhaul one work ok with those or will they overwrite some stuff skyrimredone does?

My personal favorites are Convenient Horses, Frostfall, Realistic Needs and Diseases Climates of Tamriel, SkyUI, A Quality Worldmap, all of which have been listed by others. But seconding the recommendations

Other ones I like:

SkyBirds: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23771/? paired with Birds of Skyrim http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22921/? you would not believe how much more alive the world feels with more birds flying and wandering around.

I would really advise caution on SkyRe, though, it's a VERY in depth mod and can cause a lot of problems when uninstalling it, and it can conflict badly with some other mods. So you kinda have to base your mod choices around it if you go for it, and you have to be prepared to stick with it.

To myself Realistic Needs and Diseases is a must have
Corrossive 2013 年 07 月 23 日 @ 下午 8 時 50 分
combining the intense storms mod with frostfall and the realistic needs and diseases mods forces you to set up camp or yeild traveling in snow storms and take refuge or set up camp and hunt more often, great for immersion!

Personally it depends on you. Someone mentioned Skyrim Redone which I think is a terrible mod that unbalances the combat and overcomplicated things (which unfortunately the main module is part of the problem since I feel the Skyrim Redone perks are worse than vanilla), but others like that person think it's great.

Play the game for a bit and see what you feel is missing. For me it was more armors, followers and quests.
