Skyrim doesn't launch after pressing Play
I havn't played Skyrim in a while but a few days ago when I tried to load it up I launched the Skyrim launcher and pressed play on the screen that comes up and after that nothing happens. The launcher closes but the game doesn't start. I have re-installed several times, verified game cache several times, and I have no mods installed, so I have no idea why it won't launch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

seems that was what the OP did...so not much help in your statements Trigger.

OP, I am not sure I can help you either, but try to do this;

When you get the first screen, choose "Data files" and see if everything has a mark on them.

(you tell you have none mods installed...do you by any chanse try to start the game from an old save that have been playd with mods?...if so...try to start a new game and see if it loads then)

You might also download BOSS, and run it...it will put up the right loadorder for your files.

If you don't get it to work...please state a bit more about your PC, What OS (win7 or win8 and so on)

Do you run any virus protection....try to disable and see if the game starts then...the fault is on your side...it is just to figure out what prevent it.
Set tesv.exe to run as admin

When I choose data files there isn't anything in there listed, so nothing is checked but nothing can be checked, there is nothing there. Should there be? Also I'm runnning windows 8 on my computer, but I've tried running in compatability mode and it didn't change a thing

Hmm, strange thing indeed.

I can see you have reg the game, so you own a valid copy of it.
You have installed it through Steam I assume.
Normally should then the needed files be spotted at once.

You might try out ;
https://code.google.com/p/better-oblivion-sorting-software/
Which will search for the files, and sort them....if this one don't find any then strange indeed.

Have you installed Steam in "Programfiles"....it is a bit sad that Microsofts "security" many times prevent programs to work at all in this Dir, I would recommend to move steam to a ""Games/Steam dir outside of ""Programfiles""

You might also do as "Kid" says, run as admin....but it is little help if "Data files" not contain anything.
You might go to your Skyrim dir and try it out...if programfiles are the dir..it should be something like this;
C:/Programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim
Ther you will find the exe files for Skyrim...right click it and choose "run as administrator"

I have searched the net and found something you might read.

Thanks for all the suggestions but turns out I found what I needed to do, odd solution considering I've re-installed several times. All I did was delete everything in my skyrim folder except for the folders and verify game cache, they were replaced, and now it runs. Not sure why that worked but now I can play it, thanks for the help though.

you turn on your pc, you launch steam, you press play Skyrim, your Skyrim page opens then press play again.
What I do is launch 3-5 Skyrims at a time. It works on or after the third or fourth time. I hate it.
Sweet Mother of Talos. Necroing this thread was the best you could find for "Skyrim doesn't launch"?

I had the exact same problem. There seems to be multiple fix choices you can try, with some working and others not working depending on the PC. Validating, Reinstalling from steam, Running as Administrator etc did not fix it for me.

What worked for me, is uninstalling Skyrim completely, then reinstalling using the CD, retail version. (I bought the game from EB games ages ago) Once that finished, steam updated it, and it worked. I hope this can help somebody. :D

In relation to my previous reply, turns out it didn't work. It worked for a day or 2, then resumed back to crashing on the logo. I have fixed it again, though!

I'm interested, how many of you use xfire?

For my issue, at least, xfire was the culprit. I close xfire, and Skyrim worked. I open xfire, and Skyrim would crash!

I know this is an old thread, but maybe people who are having this issue will find this thread, and hopfully it will help them out.

Good luck, all!

So this is kind of the same problem I have, but when I try to open the launcher it opens for about a millisecond (I only see the launcher flash) then it closes, i've tried validating game files, unsubscribing all of my mods, reinstalling, and even running the game from the files. But it still does this! Could someone please help?
If you use xfire, close it completely so that it's not running in the background, and try Skyrim again. I'm only repeating this as you didn't mention whether you had xfire or not. Good luck with getting Skyrim to work! :D

Well, i don't have xfire... sorry for not specifying that. I dont really have anything but curse, overwolf, and skype, I should have tried closing curse and overworld (since ive run it with skype before) but I decided to try deleting all of the game files then validating, now its reinstalling all of the files. I decided to try this because when I looked at the files it had stuff that I put in it a long time ago when I first broke it, so i guessed that Skyrim Online was in it. Ill tell you guys what happens when its done installing
Ah righto. Good luck with it anyways! :D
