Fairly New To PC gaming and Getting Started on Skyrim, Any Advice?
I have always been interested in this game but mostly afraid of the time/sleep I'll lose once I get fully into it. But oh well, here we go. Is there anything I should be aware of before jumping in?

Nah, the game is fun, and it'll definitely take up your time. I didn't find it amazingly addictive or anything like that. It's easy to walk away and take a breather and what not.

a quick look through the pinned thread "help/tips..." header might help you enjoy the game more.

I won't sugarcoat it. The game has some common and fairly bad bugs. Nothing that will make you delete a save game and start over, mind you. Just very annoying and frustrating. I just feel I should warn you. Please do not let this dissuade you from getting the game.

Learn about mods then go to Skyrim Nexus at and download a beauty mod. Otherwise you will be revolted by the butt fuglyness of the skyrim chicks.

have you played it yet on console?

This is one of my favorite games of all time. It can be frustratingly buggy, but nothing game breaking that I've run into. Also don't be stingy with the steam workshop, there is some really amaizng stuff out there that make this really good game even more incredible.

Take your time exploring and don't worry excessively about chasing quests or following the main storyline. The main story line is really not the main part of Skyrim at all.

Wow. A lot of good feedback so quick. Pretty cool to see such an involved community for a game. Thanks everyone. I have not played the game on console but I've heard stories from friends that got me interested. I seem to have pissed off the wrong people while playing the other night because I was trying to get to the second city after escaping from the initial dragon attack and I'm getting my ♥♥♥ kicked by a single guard over and over again. Last time I'll save a random prisoner. Haha. I'll be reloading a save point or two with that I think. I'll definitely take a look at the mods as I go along. I've heard of a Macho Man mod that sounded pretty hilarious so I'll have to give that a try. Thanks again.

Make sure you play comfortably. Hunching over a cumputer can really take a toll on your back. Other than that enjoy the game.

dont be afraid to dial up that difficulty setting....the experience is much more fun whenever you actually fear for your life as opposed to just mowing everything down in your path.

Also, idk about your playstyle, but I'd try to keep fast-traveling to a minimum (or at least at the beginning of the game). Traveling acrosss Skyrim from city to city leads you to all of the awesome side quests and random encounters that make this game so great.

When you get to Riverwood after escaping from Helgen start chopping wood to make some easy money so as you can buy some semi decent gear. It's behind the blacksmiths beside the sawmill, person on the sawmill will buy it off you. :)

First thing: you'll need mods. Mods make the game infinitely better than it already is. If you'd like some suggestions, I'd be happy to throw a few your way.

Also, roleplay your character. Or at least play a certain class. Roleplaying definitely adds a whole new deminsion to the game and makes it much more fleshed out and satisfying, but it's not for everyone. At the very least, stick to a certain playstyle. Don't be a jack of all trades and join all the guilds. That ruins the game (in my opinion). My first character from way back when was a Redguard One-Handed Warrior/Assassin/Thief/Destruction Mage. That character was awful, and I'd give anything to go back in time and slap myself in the face. To get the full experience, you should create several characters. Some good, some evil, some warriors, assassins, mages, thiefs, and so forth.

Just play the game and experiment with mods. Don't be like some people who are terrified of mods. The game was made for modding and mods just make an okay game the best thing in the world. The workshop is a good introduction to easy modding. But for more advance and bigger mods that the workshop don't/can't have, you'll want to try other mod sites like the nexus. There are many places you can find via google.
