I don't like Skyrim.
And I don't know why. Seriously I bought it a while ago on sale after everyone raves about how good it is. I loved Fallout 3 and so thought that Skyrim is another Bethesda game and I only hear positive things about it so I bought it. However I got bored very quickly, it was so dull. The combat was really fun and I enjoyed the RPG elements but the story felt weak, as did the voice acting. But everyone talks about Skyrim like it's the best thing since sliced bread, like it's the second coming of christ, so why don't I like it? I loved Fallout 3, I love RPGs, but why did I get bored so quickly, what is actually good about this game? Why do you play it? Because I can't seem to find a reason why I should, as much as I want to find an excuse to do so.

Just think of it like you're playing Fallout 3 with more swords.

You obviously come into Bethesda games at the wrong spot. Fallout 3 was Bethesda first title into the Fallout franchise they obtained. If you like Fallout 3, but minus the FPS action element, you may want to have a look at Wasteland 2 which is the sequel to the predecessor to Fallout franchise (complicated, I know). Skyrim belongs to TES series, it's different to FO where story has always been the main focus (including non-linear story of FO1, 2 and NV).

Yeah but I like Fallout before Bethesda took over but 3 is my favorite, and I've always loved the story and setting of both games. Are you saying the story is the main focus of Fallout and not Skyrim? If so what's the point? Just to kill monsters in a big open world?

Well I guess I'll ask the most basic question:

Do you like medieval-fantasy games? That's definitely a big part of whether you're going to like Skyrim or not. I know a couple of people who loved FO3 and New Vegas but when they tried Oblivion and/or Skyrim they didn't really take to it b/c they weren't all that interested in dragons, elves, magic, and swords. They liked the whole post-apoc wasteland with guns setting a lot more.

I absolutley enjoy the post-apoc wasteland setting, I love Fallout, TWD anything like that really. But I don't not like fantasy settings although I don't have an overly-fondness of them. Basically I'm not crazy about fantasy games but I still like them. Actually i was crazy about Stronghold 1 and 2 if that counts as fantasy.

Yor allowed to not like it....as long as you have reasons for not liking it, then dislike it away! :) I love it, like a lot of others.

Just a big open world. I started TES from Morrowind, while story used to have more impact it does not matter as much as Fallout.

If you want a real kickass story focus, try Witchers series. Really really recommended. Witcher 3 is coming up next and it boasts a really big world (20% size larger than Skyrim) while retain the real focus on non-linear story (you changes a lot of things during the story including who is the main antagonist of the story). The Witchers series also have grey morality, there is no good or bad side at all. A good king to his subject might be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in reality. A scheming deadly Kingslayer that caused turmoil and war in the Northern Kingdoms turned out to be your honourable friend who acted out of necessity, who even went so far as risking his neck for you and your two lovers (Geralt is popular with the ladies, who woulda thought).

Sounds like you were trying to follow the story to a "T". Skyrim isn't about that. Its not very cinimatic in that way. What Skyrim is about is exploration and the TONS of other stuff you can do in the world. If thats not your cup of tea then its not for you.
RunningDeath 20 Tem 2013 @ 5:23pm
Well, I just started to play it, but I think, Grawbad is right. Skyrim isn't really into story, but the stuff, which you can explore.
Mad_Pickle 20 Tem 2013 @ 5:46pm
This disussion does not compute...dont like skyrim?..wah?
zejokee.chief 20 Tem 2013 @ 5:56pm
X2. but each to his own. Great game but not for everyone.
fatwednesdayite 20 Tem 2013 @ 5:58pm
Skyrim is by all means an amazing game. It chills me out. You can visit beautiful locations, listen to amazing music and just freely explore. Characters are believable, the story is interesting and the entire location of Skyrim has been masterfully brought to life with the Civil War and the situation with the dragons. When I play Skyrim, I feel a part of that world and that is what makes this game completely unique from any other game available on the market. I understand that some people dislike it but I will not exaggerate in saying that it is--very easily--the best game I played my whole life. It will take a special game to beat Skyrim in terms of entertainment, attachment and just enjoyment.

That is just my opinion though.
