Shipping Insurance?
I bought an evga geforce gtx 780 3 gb to replace my 670. It shipped today. i bought it from Ncix (US) and i declined shipping insurance. Should i have gotten it. Is their a risk. The product isnt being shipped that far, possibly from Washington D.C and i live in Massachusetts. Should i be concerned?

am i ♥♥♥♥ed? gpus are usually packed securely and with adequete protection, especially a 650.00 one. But, its EVGA, if something happens, im sure they'll take care of it.

ups is a good company i wouldn't worry, plus you should have a tracking number to track your package

do gpus arrive dead or damaged commonly?

Not due to the mishandling of packages, no. GPUs are fairly resilient and the boxes are actually quite sturdy.

they're shipping to you , they are responsible for it arriving safely , not you , your fine , you only need to get insurance when you are the party doing the shipping

♥♥♥♥... im an idiot... i should have known that, but ive never dealt with Ncix, or ive yet to know how trustworthy they are, even though the 780 shipped in 5 hours after ordering.

ncix is perfectly legit, i wouldn't worry at all about them. I've used them several times without issue

The liability of a shipping company is limited to a certain amount, which may not be enough to cover a damaged item. The normal limit is US$100. (Insurance is what I do.) That's why they ask you if you want to buy it. Once the item leaves the entity who sold it to you they are not responsible for damage done by the shipper. It's always a good idea to buy insurance if it is an expensive item and the cost is not prohibitive.

That said, items are rarely damaged in transit, we purchase lots of computer parts this way and have never had one arrive damaged. The problem is usually found within the hardware itself. You SHOULD be okay. (fingers crossed)

FYI--if you rent a car--ALWAYS get the insurance. Your own insurance might not cover the cost of replacing the rental car plus the damage done to other car(s)/people.

That's my insurance lecture for the night. I thought I left work hours ago....

Are you NCIX?
Sturmgewehr_44 12 jul 2013 om 8:51nm
well, if anything happens, its probably a faulty product, im sure evga will have me covered (is their support really that good?)

Me, absolutely not. I'm just a user, like you. I happen to work in the insurance field.
