Sounds Missing
Good Day, recently decided to grab a PC copy of skyrim and I seem to be having an issue that google is not helping me with. Game runs fine apart from one annoying issue, I have no combat sounds or music.

I've tried most of the obvious fixes like verifying steam cache, reinstalling DirectX, changing my audio bitrate and even tried unpacking the .bsa files to no avail. Anyone run into something similar to this before?

I had a similiar issue. I fixed it by disabling a lot of background processes.

Easiest way is typing in this searcbar "msconfig". You now this thing in your bottom left corner windowslogo. Once msconfig is open you need to uncheck "load systemstart elements". There is also the topic "System start", you need to check your Operatingsystem there. I did this and my PC is still working fine. Note that i cant give you te exact names, since my language is german and yours i dont know.

Ended up figuring out my issue, turns out skyrim didn't like being installed on anything but the C drive. Everything worked the instant I moved it.

*UPDATE*
Skyrim does not like being on a WIN8 Storage Space Partition in general, keep that in mind anyone who uses Windows 8

I feel like this should be a "known issue". I had the same problem. Pretty ridiculous.

You're kidding right? I've had the same issue with two other games! Oh, well, thanks for the help on that, I'll promptly put it on my C drive!

Hey everyone, I have the same problem, except that my Skyrim is already installed under my steam directory, which is located in my C drive's program files. What does this mean? Yesterday, I had sound, but very quiet. Today, I have nothing.

I don't think so. I have tinnitus, so I don't use headphones.

EDIT: I'm stupid. I did lower volume XD Thanks for the help. But a question: it still is kinda quiet, and my volume level doesnt seem to change that. Any tips?

i think the volume ingame is maxed out by default, you could have a look there

or enhance the sound in the sound device panel or what its name is on english

What's the sound device panel?

you can access it in the bottom left corner the little speaker
