Gamefly 20 dollars cheaper than Steam.
I just bought the Legendary edition from Gamefly. Copied their CD key into steams system and it prompted me to download Legendary Edition.. So, why is there a 20 dollar difference? 40 dollars on Gamefly, and 60 on steam?

Different companies have sales at different times (eg Gamefly and GMG). It also depends on where you live. Some publishers price gouge different regions. For example: Skyrim cost $80 or $90 at release for Australians via Steam because that is the Steam price set by Bethesda for Australia. Since then, GMG has made a deal with a major Australian ISP and sells keys to Australians at the regular US price.

The Legendary Edition is currently listed at $50 on Steam for Australia. It may cost $60 in your region due to regional pricing set by Bethesda and Gamefly may be undercutting prices to get sales.

Edit to add: Gamefly and GMG would pay a certain amoount per key and make their profit by selling you that key, they probably still make a fair profit selling it to you at less than the Steam price and get a sale they might otherwise not get if they charged the same as Steam.

Just to make it sting, but if you used the coupon GFDJUL20 , it would have been about $31.

Anyways to answer your question, it's because Gamefly is having a sale; no biggie.

Gamefly, GMG get their keys directly from publishers, I doubt they actually have to pay Steam if at all.

Why are they cheaper? Simple, they charge the % less than Steam, hence the publishers can price lower on Steam.

So why do they charge less than Steam? Because they are smaller they need to be competitive, also quite reasonable that because they are smaller their structures are leaner hence less cost.

So why regional pricing? Cause publishers can profit more with regional pricing. Foreign currency fluctuates, so they use that as an opportunity to price more on certain regions even after the currency conversion by a large percentage.

You really didn't notice that it said "Sale" in red and the $59.99 was crossed out?

When you purchase it on Gamefly you just copy the key and you can activate the game on Steam...so it's your forever.

Yeah, definitly verifies that this is a joke. Gamefly is one year older than Steam. And Steam not worrying about sales? Yeah, Steam never has THOSE. Good joke, man.

There are digital sellers like GMG or Gamefly where they have "discount" all year round (15-25%) so what the "original price" is really irrelevant. For instance, GMG have 25% off virtually everyday, Gamersgate has 5% off coupon and 5% blue coin reward everyday.
