Cant Absorb Dragon Souls

Im on my first dragon fight of the game and after i kill it the skin doesnt burn and i dont abosorb the soul. Ive been troubleshooting for a while and still cant figure out why. I only have dragonborn DLC downloaded. ive tried getting to dragonborn unofficial patch and the skyrim unofficial, ive tried un-downloadeding the dragonborn dlc and the unofficial patches. i dont have any mods that interfere with dragons, ive even tried loading a previous save and doing the mission agin. please help i cant even continue the story beacuse the current object keeps telling me to "investigate the dragon"

i dont mind not abosorbing the dragon soul, i can just add them with console commands if i need to, but i cant continue the story because of this

Lots of people have this isse; I did. There are suggestions all over as to why; I won't go into that. There are mod fixes about that 'fix' just this issue. I suggest you try the one I point you at if you don't use nexus and are new to mod installation.

It seems to say the fix is to have the Drragonborn expansion after the skyrim unofficial.

The dragonborn patch would come last of course.


As you're new to mod installs you would change your load order by clicking on 'Data Files' after clicking play game in Steam. Then highlight the file and use the arrows to change its load position.


When I had this issue I made a save just before running up to the little keep, and had to try a few fixes before I got that first soul. So you'll need to replay that bit until it works I guess.

well when i click data files on the menu the load order is:

Dragonborn DLC
Unofficial Skyrim Patch
Unofficial Dragonborn patch

and thats all i have, no hearthfire or dawnguard so i wont need the unofficals for them. will i?

NO,

It says you need

Unoff' patch
Dragonborn DLC
Dragon' patch

that's if I'm reading that guy's fix right.

Just a question....Do you have any Player mod installed at all?

If you don't have...fine...go on investigating..

If you have any Player mods installed...uninstall them so you find the source.It might all be due to the fact that the burning animation of the Dragon don't start...then it will not go to the absorb line.

I don't mean to be the one that says something obvious, but I assume you actually walked up close to the dragon? I know I didn't complete the quest because I saved after I killed it (I had killed it from afar with magic & arrows) and then when I came back on I forgot what I was doing and went to do a different quest...

thanks for the help guys, im not sure how but i fixed the problem. The first dragon wouldnt burn so i just used console commands to give myself a dragon soul then to advance the quest and now when i kill other dragons i absorb their souls. not sure if thats what fixed it or not but hey im not complaining!

Unofficial skyrim patch has to be installed before DLC is installed to work, unfornately I had DLC first and everytime I loaded patch I lost my souls when removed, back to normal.

i have heavily modded skyrim, and i have all dlc and patches and i use boss, finis and nmm. what do i have to do to fix the issue without console commands, as i want to unlock achievements?

If I recall correctly, the quick fix right after the bug was discovered was to disable the DLC until you've finished that part of the quest, then reactivate it afterwards.
