I don't think so...I think that there are different types of follower who adopt various combat styles..and have different attributes..So it really depends on who you want.....

I prefer Archers as followers...

they all kinda suck , i've been using followers for a little bit now and they all do really annoying things at the worst possible time , they are kinda nice to use as cannon fodder though , for me the best follower isn't even a follower ,Arniel's shade is great , he does his job and then poof he's gone till you summon him again

Housecarls(or in this case, Lydia) are very good warrior tank followers when equipped with 1h/shield build, however, the drawback of getting a follower as with most of them in the game is how they will be stuck among the level where you first found them at and housecarls max out at lv 50( you can fix them if nonessential with the Wabbajack or even by console). Although like Dan said- it all depends solely on your style of gameplay.

Hoth is a good character but he is NOTHING compared to Vilja

Vilja is fully voiced
has her own quests
comments on your every actions - IE she doesnt approve if you join the thieves guild
can read books for you
sing songs
make potions
carry stuff for u

seriously people who think lydia is the best follower must be people who are console only owners or people who have no idea what mods are.

Vilja was the best follower in Oblivion and shes also the best follower in Skyrim. The creator of these has also made followers for Fallout and done voices for them as well. he Fallout vegas we were given willow who was an amazing follower who also had her own story etc etc. Now in Skyrim we have vilja

Whats best about vilja is if you dont like how she looks you can just change her facial appearance via the other face texture mods

there are much better followers out there rather than lydia. the three i always have in my team are Cerdwin, Vijla and Serana.

Cerdwin- Cause she is the best healer follower on the nexus.
Vijla- Cause she is just awsome. that and she makes a good all-rounded fighter.
Srana- Cause every team need's it's sexy vampire mascot, lol. xD

In all honesty, all followers are good but most have low level limits and youre followers will stop leveling with you usually around LV 45-60. might i sugest someone post a follower level uncap mod below this post? :P

there are mods out there on the nexus that change how she looks. maybe you should start a thread asking for a serana apperance change mod.
