Ghost in my machine?
I tried a while back on yahoo answers to get an answer to my question but instead yahoo deleted my post for no reason at all which makes this next part a little more unsettling. Now a little backstory:

I was in the Bannered Mare and looting the bags and barrels underneath the staircase when I heard someone in the room say something like "Yes?". I got shivers right away because it sounded different than the other people talking in the room. It seemed..closer. Close enough that I looked behind me in real life before turning my character around.

When I did finally drum up the courage to look I was standing in front of a woman I have never seen before. Now I had already clocked like 400 hrs on this game alone so there aren't too many unfamiliar faces in Skyrim for me. I was curious to say the least. Her name said Adla Raf and I noticed I could talk to her so I did. The only option I had was to ask her if she could "Follow me, I need your help." so I clicked it and she became my follower.

She was an epic fighter! Like nothing I had ever seen in Skyrim before. Effortlessly weilding master ice and flame spells she made light work of anything we came across. Then I fast travelled. In my game I rarely ever fast travel. I love the scenery and the realism of walking or riding from town to town. But this time I needed to fast travel. My pockets were brimming with all the loot I had stole from Whiterun earlier and I was to go on a quest delving deep into a dwemer ruin so I wanted empty pockets. When I fast traveled to Riften from Markarth Adla was no where to be seen. I tried backtracking to Markarth but she wouldn't come. I even reloaded a previous save where I still had and she was just...gone. Gone completely from the save I knew I had her in. I also had zero, zip, nilch, for mods at this time. Can someone please explain this to me? Is she a glitch? A ghost? Something altogether different?

I have also checked Skyrim Wiki for her and I received zero results. When I google it I get nothing but information on Raf planes from WWII. I checked the steam workshop..just in case there was a mod of some kind with her name in it (even though I hadn't downloaded any yet). Finally I downloaded the creation kit simply to search through their databases to see if she was a hidden person somewhere..she wasn't. I have tried everything I can think of short of writing to Bethesda for answers. Which I might try one day.

That's freaky, man. Don't know what to say.

Yeah I have been coming up with dead ends everywhere. My hope is that someone, somewhere on this forum has expierenced her presence and can shed at least a little light on my predicament.

Another picture of Adla that I forgot I had. When I loaded this save with her clearly in the photo she wasn't there when the game finally loaded. I have saved this save and the picture never changes. It shows her in it but she is gone when the game starts.

Well that is a bit spooky and I don't have near as many hours in Skyrim as some, but here are my observations. Have you ever at any time of playing this char of yours had follower mods running and then removed them? From the limited dialogue when she joined you it seems common for the type of follower mods that might add a pack of a few to even a hundred+ followers. From looking at the picture you can see the darker face, but a lighter skin tone close to the collar line on her clothing. This is a very common glitch in some follower mods. My guess is you had some follower mod running with a bunch of generic followers with random names generated. Then you removed the mod but skyrim being glitchy kept some remnants in your save until you fast traveled. How big is your save file for the char? If fairly large you probably have some save bloat from adding and removing mods while playing.

At the time the event happened I had never installed a mod into my game. The only thing other than the game I had download was the high res texture pack dlc from bethesda. I hadn't installed a single mod until a month or so ago after I downloaded the creation kit and got curious about what other people had created. And like I said I only installed the creation kit so I could check and see if she was some hidden character inside the game.

Well not sure what to say but that picture clearly shows the different color line from using different textures or meshes in modding head and body. Here is an example unclothed http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/7495/skyrimheadglitch.jpg

i lived with a ghost for a few years back in the '90's , she drove me nuts , would turn on lights in the middle of the night just to wake me up , i finally just told her to leave me alone , and she did

i know for a fact there were no mods in my game. as for the line if adla is a glitch of some kind or another there is a good chances the textures would be weird. But if she is a generated error some how in my game why would the game choose a confusing race. it's almost as if skyrim mixed all the races together somehow and came up with her.

All the NPCs you killed in Skyrim coalesced into her. They were not angry, just sad.

I'm starting to think my game is sentinent and there is a strong message to her brief presence in my game

who's to say what sentient really is ? is life just a construct to give meaning to existence ? is a rock or paperclip any less "alive" than say a cute fuzzy kitten?

I could not resist looking in your profile. You have almost 1000 hours in Skyrim.

Now that means one of three things:
1: you had a mod you forgot you had, happens after a few hundred hours
2: your sanity cracked like an egg after your 800th hour
3: you projected so much emotion onto Skyrim that something paranormal took place
