Skyrim minimized and then wont re-open so have to close
Ive been playing for 50 hours and recently reset my cache and all that jazz and started a new game. I was on my way out of a cave when the game minimized to desktop.
i tried to open it and it just brings up skyrim with a black window so had to close it.
Any ideas what caused this and how to avoid it?

It might have been a memory thing.

It has happen several times to me too, if a program has done a ""task" that makes Skyrim to minimize. I have tried to use cp (ctr/alt/del/) and then double click Skyrim that is running.
This has opened up Skyrim again, but some times you get double mouse markers...and I think it is then best to just save and restart the game....but you are not alone..that was the point of my reply :)

I have a tip whenever it minimizes and does not open...when at desktop, thinking,
'omg what just happened',

FIRST: click on the Skyrim minimized bar,

THEN: When ''nothing happens''....simply bring up task manager (ctrl+alt+del) as if you are going to end the program, but...

INSTEAD of clicking anything, simply Exit the task manager, having done effectively nothing.

9 times out of 10, it takes you right back in game once more and all is as it should be! Try it! Lemme know if it worked for you as it does for me :) You try that instead Rhuto..see if it works for you too...

for me holding alt and clicking the black screen works

If this happens to me, I always click on the minimized Skyrim AND press ALT+TAB to switch to it. I have to wait 5-10 seconds, but then I'm back ingame and can go on playing.

LOL..I think it might have something to do with the Steam Interface...It is a running program also....might be that..who knows.

Tanks for all the replies!
I dont run anything else when playing skyrim so I dont know why it happened.
And my computer can run all 4 demanding games I own at once with only 20 percent cpu usage so skyrim on its own is no trouble and i have 4 gigs ram free while its running.
But I will be sure to try these suggestions if it happens again.
Many thanks all.

This game has never like it when I repeatedly alt-tab and always results in the program closing for no reason. My rig is pretty good and no other game does this except skyrim...

Also the same thing happens to me as OP stated. On going thing since launch for me.

Antivirus and system update notifications trigger this for me. Also running a web browser in the background with ads that try and popup seems to make it more likely to happen. This is a pretty common problem, as you can see by the number of responses!

Sometimes when you finally manage to get Skyrim running again you will have the dreaded second cursor too <shudder> That's a save, quit and restart moment for me.

Whenever I Alt+Tab away from the game in fullscreen, it always brings that black window when I navigate back to Skyrim. To fix it I simply click inside of the window somewhere, click the desktop, then click inside of the window again and boom - fullscreen game again. Also, Alt + Tabbing to Skyrim -> something else -> Skyrim works too.

Not sure why it does this -- my rig has more than enough memory. I assumed it had something to do with Steam, as it doesn't happen to any of my other games.

That also happens to me. I just do the Alt + Tab process repeatedly until it works. Seems to be slightly faster than Save/Quit/Reload.
